Which neighborhood is good ?Kienhorststraße 84, 13403 Berlin or Detmolder Str., 10715 Berlin-Bezirk Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf

I'm a master's student. I have been looking for an accommodation for October and I got 2 good ones but I don't know the neighborhood and which area is good and enjoyable.

Also my uni is at Sonnenallee 221, 12059 Berlin. One is 13 km away and one is 17 km away. Both have u bahn availability, but still asking for an opinion on choosing a location.

honestly the Detmolder one is the smarter choice for a student, not just for the u7 connection but because Sonnenallee itself is in Neukölln which has a way different vibe than Reinickendorf. the u7 from Wilmersdorf to Hermannplatz is like 15-20 mins, then you're a 10 min walk or one bus stop down Sonnenallee. the Reinickendorf route will have you changing at Leopoldplatz or similar, easily 40+ mins each way

also Wilmersdorf has the Volkspark nearby and the Ku'damm area is walkable if you feel like it, while Kienhorststraße is basically next to the Märkisches Viertel which is all those 70s high rises and not much else. for a master's student who prob wants to grab coffee or meet people after class, Wilmersdorf wins easily. just make sure the Detmolder apartment isn't right on the main street, the u-bahn rumble can get old

tbh the Kienhorststraße one is in Reinickendorf, which is pretty quiet and residential. not much going on there nightlife or cafe wise, but you'll have the u6 right there and it's decently connected. the Detmolder Str one is in Wilmersdorf, way more central and lively, closer to stuff like bars and parks along the Wilmersdorfer Straße.

if you're at Sonnenallee, both are a bit of a trek but the Detmolder one is closer to the u7 which gets you to Hermannplatz faster, then a short bus or walk to your uni. the Reinickendorf one would be u6 to u7 or u8, more transfers and prob a bit longer door to door.

imo go for the Detmolder Str one if you want to actually enjoy the city and not feel like you're in the suburbs. Reinickendorf is fine if you value quiet and a bigger room, but for a student who wants to be out and about, Wilmersdorf is the better bet. just check how long the u-bahn actually takes, 17 km can be misleading if the connection is smooth.

I'd go with Detmolder Str. for your situation. That stretch of Sonnenallee is intense during the day, lots of traffic and the famous shawarma spots, so you'll appreciate being able to unwind in Wilmersdorf's quieter streets after class rather than stepping out into more of the same in Reinickendorf.

The U7 from Wilmersdorf also puts you one stop from Berliner Kindl, which is one of the better biergartens in the city if you want to hang with classmates after. Reinickendorf's fine if you're the type who treats your apartment as a base camp and nothing else, but for daily quality of life the Wilmersdorf option gives you more breathing room.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
