This past weekend well, on my way home from the S-Bahn and also walking home from a café, both in the evening, I was harassed and threatened because of my gender presentation. I'm not ashamed of who I am and I dress the part. I used to feel safe in my neighborhood, and now I'm not so sure. I don't understand why people can't just let me be. I try not to make eye contact with anyone and I'm definitely not bothering anyone. I'm just walking along minding my own fucking business and these fragile, toxic men feel somehow threatened by my existence. I'm so tired of it.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. Friedrichshain has changed a lot in the last decade, and while it's still one of the more visibly queer areas in Berlin, the influx of tech bros and tourists has definitely shifted the vibe around Warschauer and Boxhagener Platz. The area around Frankfurter Tor and the S-Bahn underpasses can get especially sketchy after dark, even for people who aren't visibly queer. If you're looking for spots with a safer crowd, I'd stick closer to the cafés on Mainzer or Rigaer Straße, where the old-school leftist scene still hangs out, and maybe avoid walking alone through the park at Simon-Dach-Kiez after midnight.

ugh that sucks so bad and i'm sorry. i've noticed it too around boxi and even up by the ringbahn sometimes. the old friedrichshain crowd is getting pushed out by dudes from start-ups who treat the whole area like a playground. honestly the vibe west of warschauer around the rewes or down revaler str is way more chill after dark, less of that aggro energy from people who don't actually live here. try the cafe at the corner of libauer and mina where the staff will absolutely shut that shit down if they see it.

honestly it really depends on the time of day and which street you're on. i live near samariterstr and it's still fine there but the area around frankfurter allee gets weird after 10pm. maybe try hanging more around the cafes on grünberger str, that stretch feels safer to me.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
