I lost my Residence permit outside of germany. What do i do?

I lost my residence permit outside of Germany, in my home country. Im gonna be here for a while so I can wait a bit, but what is the best course of action I can take? one thing nobody mentioned yet - if you have a digital copy or photo of your residence permit card, that helps a lot at the embassy. they can use it to verify your data faster. also check if your home country has a german consulate that's closer than the main embassy, sometimes they're in different cities and can handle the same paperwork. the embassy will charge a fee for the replacement visa, think it's around 50-70 euros depending on the type

you need to go to the german embassy or consulate in your home country, not wait until you're back in berlin. they can issue a "Fiktionsbescheinigung" or a replacement visa to let you re-enter germany. contact them asap, they'll tell u exactly what documents to bring (usually passport photos, police report, and proof of residency like your Anmeldung). once you're back in berlin, you'll also need to report it lost to the LEA (Landesamt für Einwanderung) and apply for a new card, but the embassy step is the priority rn

Yeah, what the other person said is basically right. Just make sure you file a police report for the lost card in your home country first, even if it feels pointless, because the German embassy will definitely ask for it.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
