Fined incorrectly on trip from Treptower Park to Wannsee?
Bought AB ticket at 15:31 at Treptower Park

Took bus to Zoologischer Garten due t… I was on the following trip and got fined by S-bahn ticket officers:

Jumped on S7 to Postdam Hbf at 17:12 with intention to get off at Nikolasse and immediately got fined for "Travelling in the direction back to Treptower Park".
The 60€ fine receipt says I was fined on the S3 line to Tiergarten (I was on the S7 to Potsdam Hbf)
I do not understand how we were travelling backwards by taking the S7 to Potsdam Hbf. Did I genuinely make a mistake here and would an appeal have any merit?
The ticket officer said if I had "gotten off at Westkreuz 15 mins earlier" I would have not been fined, but this didn't make any more sense.
Was he confused due to the fact that all S-bahn trains from Zoologischer Garten terminated there and were returning back to Potsdam Hbf?
yeah this is a classic BVG ticket inspector trap honestly. your AB ticket covers you from treptower to wannsee, but the moment you went past nikolassee towards potsdam you left the AB zone - that's where it gets messy. the inspector probably flagged you because your route went AB -> ABC -> back into AB, which looks like you're trying to game the system even if you weren't.
the fact they wrote S3 instead of S7 on the fine is actually a good argument for an appeal, that's a clear mistake on their end. i'd write to BVG customer service explaining the route, attach a map screenshot showing you were heading west, and mention the train line error. no guarantees but i've seen people win on smaller inconsistencies than that.
fwiw next time just get an ABC ticket if you're going anywhere near wannsee or potsdam, saves you the headache even if you don't leave the zone. the 3.60€ extra is worth not dealing with these guys.

Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.
if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point
honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
