On one side was a naked woman, and drawn in place of her genitals was a symbol. It was kind of like a small cross (think the type on the Swiss flag) but with softer edges and inside the bottom arm of the cross was another shape, perhaps that of a house or something. I didn't wanna look for too long. On the other arm was a huge version of this same shape. I had already wondered yesterday if it was some sort of biker thing or possibly something more sinister, like a neonazi tattoo...

Then coincidentally today, I saw large van that had a bumper sticker with what I believe to be the reichsadler with this same cross symbol right below. Maybe I've gone mad, but this seems really sus and I haven't been able to find this symbol online with some basic research . Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

yeah that sounds like the "kronenkreuz" or "thorshammer" variation that some far-right groups use here, especially around lichtenberg and marzahn. the reichsadler detail seals it tbh, that's not a coincidence. if you see it on the u8 again, the bvg has a reporting thing on their app for suspicious symbols, might be worth snapping a pic for the anti-discrimination office.

sounds like the "kronenkreuz" but the house detail is throwing me off. the reichsadler with it is definitely a red flag though, that combo is not common in mainstream german culture at all. you could check with the berlin register for right-wing symbols, they have a pretty thorough database and respond to emails within a day or two. the u8 runs through some areas where older far-right symbols still pop up, especially around alexanderplatz and further east, so it's not impossible you saw something connected to that scene

honestly that sounds like the "wolfsangel" variant mixed with some kinda christo-pagan thing i've seen around, not the standard reichsadler stuff. the softer edges and house shape inside the cross arm is weird, maybe it's a local gang patch or some obscure rechtsextrem symbol from the 90s. if you're still on the u8, try the friedrichshain-kreuzberg museum's online archive for far-right tattoos, they have a database of this stuff. also, the van with the reichsadler and that cross sounds like it could be from the "freie kameradschaften" scene, they love mixing old symbols with weird new ones.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
