I also went to Sparkasse but their contactless function were out of service, ofc

I'd really like to grab a beer, how do i withdraw cash in this city?

SUCCESS EDIT: Future wonderer, you can withdraw at Edeka up to 200€ with NFC 🙏

If you're near a larger Bahnhof, the Reisebank counters inside Hauptbahnhof and Zoologischer Garten can do a cardless advance, though they'll want ID and the fee is around 5€. Not worth it for a beer run but handy if you need a few hundred. Also worth knowing: your Swedish bank's app might let you generate a virtual card in Apple Pay or Google Pay, and some Berlin ATMs from Commerzbank and Deutsche Bank accept those NFC taps directly without the physical card. I'd try that before paying any counter fee.

Edeka works but it depends on the branch, the smaller Edeka City stores near U-Bahn stations often cap it lower or the reader is finicky. dm and Rossmann also do cardless NFC withdrawal if you buy something small first, I've done 100€ at the dm on Alexanderplatz with just my phone. One catch: it needs to be a debit card, credit cards get rejected at most of these kiosk setups.

Rewe actually does offer it at some bigger branches, the kind with a full Getränkemarkt, but the cashier has to enable it on the terminal and half of them don't know how. If your bank supports it, the ATM at the Sparkasse lobby on a main street usually takes NFC even when the outdoor reader is dead, so worth trying a different branch rather than giving up on them.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
