What are your recommendations for good baguette in Berlin?

Just eating a baguette for more than 4(!) Euros from Zeit für Brot and I'm not really impressed. Do you have any recommendations for really good baguette? Just eating a baguette for more than 4(!) The real issue is that Zeit für Brot bakes everything with their sourdough starter, which gives the baguette that tangy, dense crumb. A proper French baguette should be light and almost sweet. Head to "Boulangerie Olivier" on Kantstraße, they've got a few locations but the one near Savignyplatz is reliable. Their tradition is 2.50 and they bake throughout the day, so you can catch it fresh at odd hours. If you're closer to Neukölln, "Le Pain Quotidien" on Weserstraße is a chain but the baguette is made in-house and they don't skimp on the crust, plus you can sit by the window and people watch. For my money though, the best value is the "Baguetterie Française" van that parks at the Arminiusmarkt in Moabit on Sundays, it's run by an older couple from Lyon and they charge 2.80 for a baguette that's still crackling when you bite into it.

i mean 4 euros for a baguette in berlin is wild, that's like brötchen territory inflation. if u want that real crackle, there's a tiny place hidden in the back of the markthalle neun on eisenbahnstraße, not the thursday market one but the permanent counter, called "la ferme" or something, they do a 2.20 tradition that's gone by 1pm. also weirdly, the baguette at the french deli counter in kaDeWe's food hall on the 6th floor is solid, 3.50 but u can watch them slice it and they'll warm it for u, plus u can grab a decent cheese to go with it. my actual secret though is the boulangerie on kastanienallee near the prater biergarten, no name on the door, just a red awning, they only make 40 a day and it's 2.80, but u gotta be there by 9am or it's a sad miss.

honestly skip the chains entirely. the real move is hitting up a french-run place, not a german bakery trying to do french. check out "chez maurice" in charlottenburg, near savignyplatz. it's tiny, the guy imports his flour from france, and the baguette tradition is 2.80, proper crackly crust. get there before noon or they sell out, which happens fast on weekends. also, if u're near friedrichshain, "pain et vin" on boxhagener strasse does a decent one but it's more of a wine bar, so the bread is secondary. their baguette is still better than zeit für brot though, and you can grab a glass of red with it.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
