How feasible is it to find work in a bar/restaurant during winter?

I have been bartending full time for 2 years now and have been in the service industry for about 5 years. I plan on moving out to Verling for the winter season this year with my partner who is persuing a session abroad. I'm just curious about the availability of jobs during the winter and if its realistic to find a full time position (or two part time). I'm an A1 level of german and from Canada if that can help :)

your experience is solid, you'll find something. a1 german is fine for most bars in berlin, especially in the more touristy spots, but expect to pick up more as you go. the canadian thing might actually help, some places like the vibe.

for winter, january and february can be slow so don't expect to make a killing right away. consider places near the mauerpark flea market on sundays or around torstrasse, they stay busy enough even in the quiet months. full-time is possible but a lot of places do 20 hour contracts, you might end up with two part-time gigs anyway.

also, if you're into craft cocktails, check out places in prenzlauer berg like schönhauser allee, they sometimes look for experienced bartenders and pay better. just walk in with a cv around 4pm on a weekday, that's when the bar manager is usually around.

With two years of bartending under your belt, you'll be fine finding something in Berlin's winter. A1 German is enough to start in most spots in Mitte or Friedrichshain, though you'll probably need to brush up fast for customer-facing chat. Try walking into places on Simon-Dach-Strasse or around Boxhagener Platz around 3pm on a weekday, that's when managers are usually around and not slammed. Full-time is realistic, but expect a lot of places to offer part-time first and you can pick up a second shift elsewhere if you're flexible with evenings and weekends.

yeah you'll be fine honestly. the winter crowd in berlin is pretty steady cause people are always looking for indoor spots to hang. with your experience you could prob land something at one of the cocktail bars on weserstrasse in neukölln, they get a mix of locals and tourists and the pay is decent compared to the hipster dives in kreuzberg.

one thing nobody mentioned yet is that a lot of bars here do "schicht" system where you work like 4-5 hour shifts not full 8 hour ones, so two part-time gigs might actually be more natural. just be ready for the cash register system, most places use a touchscreen POS and you'll need to learn it fast.

also if you're canadian maybe try the canadian embassy area bars near Tiergarten, they sometimes like hiring english speakers for the vibe. just don't expect january to be busy, that's when everyone's broke from december.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
