Why there are so much helicopters flying above Alt-Moabit area (near HBF) constantly in the evening/night/early morning?

Moved here recently after 6 years in Xberg. It is otherwise quite peaceful neighbourhood, but I am constantly hearing copters and they also sometimes keep hovering for long times above-ish this area.… Moved here recently after 6 years in Xberg. Is it due to close proximity of Bellevue, kanzleramt etc?

yeah its the regierungsviertel effect, but specifically its the charlottenburger chaussee / spreebogen corridor. the bpol and bundespolizei fly their super pumas & the occasional h145 out of the berlin airlift base... sorry i mean the old gatow / schönefeld side, and the approach path for the government flights into tegeler see or the bundeswehr hub near the kanzleramt puts them right over moabit. evenings are worse because thats when the vip shuttle stuff ramps up & the medevac helis from the uniklinik charité also route that way. ngl after a few months u stop noticing it, or u become one of those people who tracks them on adsbexchange lol

fwiw the pattern you're describing, evenings and early mornings rather than random, sounds more like the Bundespolizei night training window than anything gov. they do their approach and hover drills out of Fuhlsbüttel... no wait that's Hamburg, out of Gatow mostly, and the corridor over Moabit lines up with the Spree. i'm on Elberfelder and the thing that actually helped me was a white noise app, not because the copters stopped but because the hovering ones have that low thump that carries through Altbau ceilings way worse than the flyovers. if it's genuinely past midnight and constant, it's worth noting it down for a week and mailing the Bezirksamt Mitte, they log complaints and it sometimes shifts the drill schedule.

Alt-Moabit sits right under the Anflugverfahren for the government helicopters, but a lot of what you're hearing is actually the Polizeihubschrauberstaffel doing their regular patrol loops out of Berlin-Gatow, and those run late. The hovering specifically is usually the ADAC Christoph 31 waiting for a slot at Virchow or Charité, especially around shift change. I'm on Sickingenstraße and it took me about a year to stop hearing them, though the night drills still wake me up maybe once a week.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
