Hi Everyone,

I'm new to Wg-gesucht, and I wonder how to communicate with apartment providers. I send them msgs but never receive responses. Is there anything I'm missing? Should I text message them if they provide a phone number or just through website messages? Help, please!

You're probably getting lost in the flood. Most providers get 50+ replies in the first few hours, so they only look at the first 10 or so. If you're seeing the ad even a few hours after it was posted, your message is likely buried.

If they list a phone number, use it. A short text is way better than a website message because it cuts through the noise. Keep it to three lines: who you are, what you do, and that you're interested. Don't ask questions in the first message, just introduce yourself and say you'd like to see the place. Also, check whether the ad says "no calls please" in the text, some people really mean that.

yeah the phone number thing is key, but also check if they put a wg-gesucht "contact" button vs a personal email. if it's the site form, your message goes into their inbox on the platform, not their actual email, so they might never see it unless they log in. some people put a proper email address in the ad text itself, that's usually faster

another thing people miss: include a specific detail from the ad in your intro, like "i saw you're near u-bhf frankfurter allee" or "i also play guitar like your ad mentioned." it shows you actually read it and aren't copy-pasting the same thing to 50 listings. most messages are generic so that tiny detail makes yours stand out

honestly, just text them if there's a phone number. most people on wg-gesucht get flooded with messages and barely check the site. keep it short and include a bit about yourself, like what you do for work or study. timing matters too, send it in the morning or early afternoon, not at night

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
