Any half-timbered villages near Berlin?

I'm absolutely in love with the Fachwerk building style and I'd love to see some of it while in Berlin. Are there any cute towns reachable by train in the area (max. 2 hours away)? werder an der havel is the easy one nobody mentions, 40 min on the RE1 and the insel altstadt has a handful of fachwerk houses plus the whole thing sits in a cherry orchard landscape. not a fachwerk museum by any stretch but u can pair it with a walk along the havel and be back for dinner. if u want the full timber town vibe tho the harz is where it's at, wernigerode & co. berlin's own fachwerk is mostly gone, the war & ddr plattenbau took care of that

If you're willing to stretch just past your limit, Wittenberge is about 1h45 on the RE8 toward Hamburg and the whole Altstadt is a Fachwerk time capsule, largely because the town got frozen in amber after the Elbe shipping trade collapsed around 1900. The Rathaus and the old town hall square are the highlights but honestly you can just wander. Fewer tourists than the Harz towns and the train drops you right at the edge of the old core.

Quedlinburg is the obvious one and honestly worth the 2h45 RE run even if it's slightly over your limit. But fwiw Wernigerode is closer, more like 2h15 with a change in Magdeburg, and the Marktplatz there is pure Fachwerk with the crookedest little houses. Tangermünde is another sleeper, tiny but almost every building on the main drag is timber framed and it's only about 1h40 by train. Bring cash, lots of the small cafés in these towns are still Bargeld only.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
