Hey fellow Berliners!

Are you a fan of anime, manga, and all things Japanese? If so, you might already know about Dokomi, the fantastic Anime and Japan Expo happening in Düsseldorf in 2024. I'm planning to attend, and I'm reaching out to see if any of you from our vibrant city are also making the trip.

Dokomi isn't just an event; it's an experience, and it's even better when you have friends to share it with. So, why not join forces and make this journey together?

Whether you're a seasoned Dokomi attendee or a first-timer like me, let's connect and possibly organize a group outing. We can plan travel arrangements, coordinate accommodations, and even schedule meetups during the expo to explore together.

If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to comment below or send me a message. Let's make Dokomi 2024 an unforgettable adventure for all of us Berliners!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

honestly the best move is to grab a weekend ticket instead of just saturday, the friday is way more chill for browsing the artist alley and u can actually get close to the stages without fighting through crowds. if u stay till sunday, the merch stalls start discounting stuff around 3pm to clear stock, i snagged a figma for like 30% off last year. also for the trip back, the regional train from düsseldorf to berlin via hamm is slower but u can stretch out and it's like 10 euros if u split with a group, plus u avoid the ice luggage rack chaos. and if anyone needs a quiet spot to recharge, the park across from the messe east entrance is solid for a quick nap between panels.

been going to dokomi since 2019, honestly the best part is the train ride down with a group. if u book the ice to düsseldorf hbf early it's like 20 quid each way, way cheaper than driving and parking near the messe is a nightmare. also there's a bunch of us usually meet at the hauptbahnhof starbucks around 8am on saturday, grab some breakfast at the back shop before heading over. first timers always underestimate how huge the convention center is, wear comfy shoes or ur feet will hate u by day two. if u need a place to crash, check airbnb around bilk or oberbilk, way cheaper than hotel near the messe and the tram takes u straight there.

i've done the flixbus route a couple times, it's like 15 euros if u book a week ahead but the ice is way more chill tbh. also if ur into the artist alley, saturday afternoon is the worst time, everyone's packed in there like sardines. go friday morning instead, you can actually talk to the artists and grab prints before they sell out. and for food, skip the convention hall stuff, there's this little ramen spot called takumi near the hbf that's way better and only a 10 min walk from the messe south exit. first timer? bring a backpack with snacks, the lines for the food trucks are brutal by 1pm

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
