How do you request a Meldebescheinigung through writing?

-Bund-ID thing which I can't do because I don't have an ID card yet.

-Application on-site (takes way too long)

-Written application

But there is no information about how to do the written application! Does anyone know?

I requested it last year when I was living in a different place, and I remember it being relatively un complicated, I think I did it online, but I guess this Bund-ID thing is new and has locked me out of that functionality.

just email or fax the burgeramt where ur registered. no need for bund id. look up the bezirksamt address for your kiez, they usually have a kontakt form or direct email on their site. write "antrag auf meldebescheinigung" in the subject, include full name, old address, new address, and why u need it. theyll mail it to ur registered address within a week, sometimes faster if u ask for abholung. cost is like 10 euros, theyll send u a payment slip or invoice after. if ur really stuck, go to the bürgeramt in person but pick a terminal appointment early morning, not the online queue, that's the hack. i did the written route last month in neukölln, took 5 days total. no signature needed, just a clear request.

The key thing everyone misses is that you can request it through the Bürgeramt's online contact form, not just email or fax. Most Bezirksämter have a "Kontaktformular" on their site that goes straight to the right Sachbearbeiter, way more reliable than a general inbox. I did this in Mitte last year, wrote "Meldebescheinigung, dringend" in the subject, listed my name, birth date, and registered address, and got a confirmation within a day. They sent the document by post in about five working days, and the 10 euro fee came as a separate invoice you can pay by bank transfer.

One thing that speeds things up a lot: if you're registered in a Bezirk that uses the "Mein Berlin" portal, you can sometimes log in with just your email and a password instead of the Bund-ID. That's a separate system from the federal one, and it still lets you order a Meldebescheinigung directly. Worth checking if your Bezirksamt is on it, saves you the whole written application dance. If not, the written route is fine, but make sure you put "zu Händen Einwohnerangelegenheiten" on the letter, that gets it to the right desk faster than a generic address.

fax or email both work but honestly the quickest trick is the bezirksamt's general postbox if they have one listed. in mitte they've got a shared mailbox on the site, no bund id needed, just write "meldebescheinigung, dringend" in the subject line and include your vollständige name, geburtsdatum, and current registered address. they'll reply with a payment link or send the slip, but if you mention you need it for a job or visa, they sometimes waive the fee or rush it. also note the written request has no formal form, a plain text email is legally enough, they just need your request in writing. if you're really stuck, the bürgeramt in your bezirk has a "direktantrag" walk-in window at certain hours, check the site for "sprechstunde ohne termin", that's bypassed the online queue for me twice in charlottenburg. last tip, if you moved recently, double check you're registered at the new address first, otherwise they'll send it to the old one and you'll wait another week.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
