Köpenick as a Student?

Thinking about moving to köpenick. How do you like it here? What's good/bad about it? Thinking about moving to köpenick. How do you like it here? What's good/bad about it?

honestly köpenick is underrated for students if you dont mind the commute. the rents are way cheaper than central districts and you get actual nature with the müggelsee right there. the altstadt is charming but pretty sleepy, the nightlife is basically zero so you'll be heading into friedrichshain or kreuzberg for parties

the tram and s-bahn connection is decent but it does take 40 min to get to uni. also there's a decent rewe and a few döner spots but dont expect much variety in food. if you're at the HTW it's actually super close which is a huge plus

Yeah it's pretty quiet out here which is either a pro or a con depending on what you want. If you're a nature person you'll love it, the forests and lakes are amazing for summer. Just be ready for the last S-Bahn situation if you're staying out late, missing it means a long night.

the thing nobody tells you about köpenick is how far it is from the burgeramt and other admin stuff. if you need to register or deal with any paperwork you're looking at a trek to treptow or lichtenberg which is a pain

the altstadt is genuinely pretty on weekends but during the week it's dead by 8pm. there's a good vietnamese place near the schloss though, pho 26 or something, way better than the döner spots tbh

if you bike it's actually not bad, the radweg along the spree is nice and you can get to warschauer in like 30 min. just dont rely on the tram after midnight, that thing disappears into a black hole

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
