Garbage/trash hasn't been collected for weeks. What do I do?

BSR/Alba don't come to collect it regularly, and after a week there's a huge pile of trash that grows every day and our Verwaltung doesn't give a smallest shit about it. They just ignore the emails and calls. This situation is happening pretty much continuously since 2 years and is getting on my nerve.

Does Berlin have any sort of central sanitation department? Should I maybe complain to some local deputy? What is the most efficient course of action this situation? Thanks for all the info in advance!

yeah the ordnungsamt route is solid but also try the bezirksamt's "außendienst" directly, they do site visits and can issue a "müllbeseitigungsverfügung" against the eigentümer, that's the legal hammer that actually forces them to clean up within a set deadline. takes maybe 2-3 weeks but it's the only thing that hits them where it hurts, the fine plus the order to fix it.

another trick nobody mentions: send the verwaltung a formal "frist zur nachbesserung" via einschreiben, 14 days, then report them to the "wohnungsaufsicht" at the bezirksamt. they're the ones who can declare the yard a health hazard and take over the cleanup themselves, billing the landlord. kinda slow but very effective, especially if you've got kids or animals around the trash.

also check if your building has a "hausverwalter" separate from the eigentümer, sometimes the verwaltung is just a middleman who never forwards complaints. find the actual owner's name in the grundbuch at the grundbuchamt, costs like 10 euros, and write to them directly, owners usually freak out when tenants go over their manager's head. that's gotten results for people i know in schöneberg, tbh quicker than any amt.

honestly, the Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) is the central sanitation department, but they only pick up from public bins and streets, not private yards. your problem is 100% on the Verwaltung, they have a contract with a private waste company, and BSR won't touch it.

the fastest way to light a fire under them is the Ordnungsamt Schöneberg, file a formal complaint about "unkontrollierte Müllablagerung" on private property, they can actually fine the Hausverwaltung, and once money's involved they tend to move. also, check if your Mietvertrag mentions garbage removal, if not, you can withhold a tiny bit of rent via the Mietverein, but only after written notice, that's the nuclear option.

for a softer push, call the BSR hotline anyway, they sometimes do "Sperrmüll-Aktionen" for whole blocks and might dump a container in your yard for free, but that's a one-time fix, not a system change. also, try the Bezirksamt's Mieterberatung, they mediate with landlords for free, takes a few weeks but it's a paper trail that scares Verwaltungen.

Another thing that works is the "Mängelmelder" app from the Bezirksamt, you can upload photos and it creates a public case with a tracking number. Once it's visible online, the Verwaltung gets a notification and it's much harder for them to ignore, plus you can share the link with neighbors so they can add their own complaints. I've seen that get results in under a week here.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
