I spent a lot of time there and remember it being a pretty big complex surrounded by high rise apartments and a few night clubs (strawberry?)?

Did the complex get torn down and rezoned for public building or did they actually use the exising structures we trained in?

If you want to see what's left, take the S25 to Osdorfer Strasse and walk south along the Finckensteinallee. The old Amerikanische Siedlung housing stock is still standing and partly rented out, but the actual training mock village sat on what's now the green strip and sports fields between the S-Bahn and the Teltow Canal, and that's all been levelled and replanted. The nightclub you're thinking of was the Strawberry Club on Osdorfer Strasse, though by the early 90s it had turned into more of a disco for the Turkish and German crowd than a GI spot, and it closed years ago. Worth knowing the whole Lichterfelde Sud zone stayed sealed off and fenced for a good while after 94 because of old munitions and soil contamination from the training, which is partly why redevelopment dragged on into the 2000s.

doughboy city was in lichterfelde sud, the old amerikanische siedlung off landsberger allee near the osdorfer strasse s-bahn. mostly gone now, they demolished a lot of the training mockups in the mid 90s and the area got redeveloped with housing. some of the old apartment blocks are still there though, you can walk around and it's weirdly quiet compared to what you remember. the strawberry club i think you mean was nearby but that whole nightlife strip is long gone too

the strawberry was on osdorfer strasse yeah but the one gis actually drank at was more the strip up by the s-bahn, and after the wall fell a lot of that crowd drifted to mitte & prenzlauer berg instead. that whole lichterfelde sud thing is basically a housing estate now, dreilinden or whatever they called the new quarter

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
