Boesner and Modulor are solid picks, but for watercolor paper specifically, I'd swing by Papier und Co near Mehringdamm. They stock Hahnemuhle and Arches at prices that'll make you wonder why the US markup is so brutal. If you're after brushes, Kunst & Handwerk in Friedrichshain has a small but sharp selection of da Vinci brushes, which are German-made and noticeably cheaper than what you'd pay stateside. Don't skip the big OBI hardware stores either, they sell basic watercolor blocks from Pelikan under 5 euros, fine for sketching without worrying about wasting good paper.

if you're into watercolor specifically, try Gerstaecker on Hauptstrasse in Schoeneberg - they've got a huge wall of individual pans and tubes, and you can test stuff before buying. their store brand paper is actually decent for the price, like 5-6 euros for a pad that'd be 15 bucks in the states. also check out any DM or Rossmann for basic supplies, they sell Schmincke student grade for cheap if you just wanna mess around without commiting

honestly for watercolor stuff check out Boesner in Charlottenburg, it's a big pro shop with a solid selection and prices are usually better than what you'd find in the US for brands like Schmincke or Daniel Smith. if you're near Kreuzberg there's also Modulor on Prinzenstraße, they have a decent paper section and some unique local brands you won't see back home. just a heads up that Berlin shops close early on Saturdays and are closed Sundays, so plan your trip around that

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
