Shacks Along Railway Line Near Templehof Feld?

I am on my way home and taking the S Bahn to the airport.

We noticed a lot of these types of shacks with satellites and solar panels. Do people live in these or are they work sheds or garages? https:…

yeah those are kleingarten colonies, but some of them near tempelhof are actually pretty old. my friend's oma has had one off columbiadamm since the 70s. the bigger ones with proper roofs sometimes get rented out to people who basically live there illegally in summer, everyone knows but looks the other way. if u walk along the path between the s-bahn and the field you'll see some with actual lounge chairs and outdoor kitchens, way beyond a shed vibe. glad u liked berlin, the food hangover is real lol

Those are Schrebergartencolonies, officially called Kleingartenanlagen. People don't live there full-time, they're weekend and summer garden plots with little sheds or huts. The satellite dishes and solar panels are just for comfort when people are out there gardening or grilling on weekends. You'll see these clusters all along the S-Bahn ring, especially heading south toward Tempelhof. Glad you enjoyed the city, the food really does pile up fast.

The previous reply got it right about Schrebergarten colonies. But some of the bigger shacks you see near Tempelhof are actually workshops for full-time gardeners who work the plots commercially. The ones with more solar panels and antennas tend to be the weekend gardeners who treat the hut like a tiny cabin. If you're ever back in summer, walk through one of the open gates along the Columbiadamm side of the field. You'll see people grilling and drinking beer right next to their tomato plants.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
