It's a bit of a grey area. The law says your Anmeldung must match where you actually live, but enforcement is pretty inconsistent. If you're doing this, the biggest practical risk is that official mail from the Ausländerbehörde or your bank goes to the registered address and you never see it, which can snowball into bigger problems. I'd think hard about whether you actually need the Anmeldung for something urgent like a visa or job contract, because a 1000 euro fine is one thing but missing a deadline from immigration is another.

it's a common workaround but you're basically lying on an official document. if you register at a friend's place and your mail goes there, you might miss important stuff from the finanzamt or your bank. plus if the landlord lives in the building and mentions to the hausverwaltung that you're never around, someone could report you. the fine is usually around 50-100 euro if they catch you, but the bigger headache is when your visa or residence permit renewal asks for proof of actual residence and the address doesn't match up

Technically the address on your Anmeldung is supposed to be where you actually live. If you register at a friend's place but sleep somewhere else, you're giving a false address to the Bürgeramt, which can lead to fines if they find out. Some people do it short-term while apartment hunting, but it's not something to rely on long-term, and it can cause issues with mail, health insurance, or tax class notifications.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
