Hi Berliners!

I am a student and I am looking for a part time job beside my studies.

I speak fluent english but my German is not that good, altho i can have a simple conversation.

Any tips on how to go forward? Is printing out my CV and giving it to cafés and stores a good move?

Thanks:)

yeah printing cv's can work in some spots but honestly most places in berlin want you to apply online now. checkout nebenjob.berlin or berlin.schwarzesbrett.de - those are pretty solid for english-friendly gigs. also if u have a fahrrad, delivery apps like wolt or lieferando are always hiring and they don't care about german at all, just need a smartphone and a bike. pay's around 13-15 euro an hour depending on tips

Temp agencies are one option, but if you want something more regular, check out the student job portals at TU Berlin or FU Berlin. They list a lot of English-friendly positions like working in university libraries or as a student assistant, and the pay is usually around 12-13 euros an hour with flexible hours around your classes. Printing CVs for cafes can work in hipster areas like Neukolln or Friedrichshain where English is common, but a lot of them prefer you apply online through sites like Indeed or StepStone.

honestly just sign up with a temp agency like randstad or zeitarbeit, they don't care about german much and get u shifts fast. cafes might be tough without good german but warehouses or delivery are pretty chill

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
