SHEFTALIA??

Where can a poor homesick cypriot find sheftalia in berlin? greek food is good but i miss my souvlakia having sheftalia in them </3 Where can a poor homesick cypriot find sheftalia in berlin? greek food is good but i miss my souvlakia having sheftalia in them </3

check out "taverna kypros" near kottbusser tor, it's tiny and looks rough from outside but the owner is cypriot and does proper sheftalia on the weekend, not every day though so call ahead. also the greek deli on kantstraße, "attika feinkost", sells frozen sheftalia mix in the back, way cheaper than eating out and you can grill it on the balcony. if u're near spandau, the cypriot bakery on brunsbütteler damm sometimes has them as a special, but it's hit or miss tbh

honestly your best bet is to hit up one of the greek cypriot spots in neukölln or wedding. there's a place on sonnenallee, i think it's called zypriotisch grill, they do sheftalia proper, not the greek loukaniko version. also check the little butcher shops around hermannplatz, some of them make it fresh on weekends, you can buy it raw and grill at home.

if you're desperate, try the cypriot community facebook group for berlin, someone always knows a hidden spot that doesn't even have a google maps pin. and yeah, most "greek" places here serve souvlakia with pork or chicken, but you gotta ask specifically for sheftalia, they'll sometimes make it if they have the mix ready.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
