Hello people of Berlin! Two questions:

If you're an expat/immigrant, where are you from?

What are your thoughts on street clothing incorporating some aspect of your native country + Germany? Would it be something interesting to you/something you'd purchase?

Thank you for your input :)

From Argentina, been here 5 years. I actually think the fusion thing works better with accessories than full outfits. A Berlin keychain on a Buenos Aires leather bag feels more organic than trying to blend prints on a hoodie.

There's a small shop near U Schönleinstraße that does exactly this with repurposed bomber jackets. They stitch patches from different countries into the fabric. It's subtle and doesn't look like a souvenir shop exploded on you.

Indian, been here six years. I actually think the whole fusion thing works best when it's not obvious at all. I got a kurta-style shirt from a shop near Boxhagener Platz that uses Berlin gray fabric with a really subtle indigo block print along the hem. You wouldn't clock it unless you were looking for it. That feels more wearable than slapping a Brandenburg Gate print on a sari.

American, been here about four years. I've seen a few people doing the flag patch thing on denim jackets and it's fine but kind of predictable. What caught my eye was someone at Markthalle Neun wearing a shirt that had the cut and collar of a traditional German Trachtenhemd but printed with a faded Stars and Stripes pattern. That felt more like an actual design choice than just sewing a patch on.

There's a brand called Malaik Raiss that does some of this kind of cultural blending with tailoring. They have a studio near Moritzplatz and their stuff is pricey but the construction is solid. I think the key is finding pieces where the fusion is in the cut or silhouette, not just the graphic.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
