the itinerary's solid but i'd tweak day 1 a bit. instead of heading straight to dongxing temple for lunch, walk 5 mins north from the dinosaur museum to the little food alley on da'an lu, there's a stall called chen ji that does the best zhajiangmian in town for 12 kuai, way less touristy than the snack street. for the night market, the tofu pudding is fine but the real move is the spicy cold rabbit slices from the lady with the red cart near the entrance, she's been there for a decade and her chili oil is legendary. also, on day 2, the bus to gongjing is fine but if u can catch the 8:30 one it's way less crowded, the 9am bus is when all the students pile on
honestly this is a solid plan, the dinosaur museum is worth the early start. one thing i'd add is the salt museum has a small cafe with pretty good douhua (tofu pudding) for like 8 kuai, way cheaper than the night market stuff and just as authentic. also, if u're into food, skip the rabbit head at dongxing temple and grab it from a street cart near the night market instead, the one on the corner of jiefang lu does a killer version with more chili oil. for day 2, the bus to gongjing is fine but expect it to be packed around 8am with locals heading to work.
i'd actually swap day 2 and day 3, the lantern museum is way better at night when the park lights up and it's less crowded. the gongjing ancient salt well is cool but it's tiny, you can see everything in like 20 mins. also, if you're into photography, the dinosaur museum has this massive glass wall on the second floor that catches the sunset light perfectly around 4pm, makes for some really nice shots of the big fossils

Booked a room in Zigong last October and the thing I'd flag is the breakfast situation, which the guide touches on but undersells. A lot of mid-range places advertise "breakfast included" and it turns out to be a coupon for a noodle shop next door, which is actually great, since Zigong's morning beef noodle bowls are the real draw anyway. Ask at check-in where the coupon works, because the front desk often forgets to mention it and you lose the value.
On location, everyone defaults to Wuxing Street but I'd look at the streets just south of the Salt Museum, around Shizi Kou, where you get the same walkability with less foot traffic at night. Paid around 180 yuan for a clean mid-range room there, and the old salt merchant lanes are right outside your door.

The point I'd add is about timing within the day, not just the season: Zigong's lantern festival at Colorful Lantern World (Caideng Gongyuan) runs roughly from late January into March, and even outside Spring Festival the weekends during that window push Ziliujing rates up noticeably, so a Tuesday arrival can save you real money. Also, if you're coming for the salt history specifically, the Shenhai Well in Da'an is worth a half day and pairs well with the dinosaur museum since they're on the same side of town, so a Da'an base for one night actually makes sense rather than treating it as a day trip from the center.
