honestly nightlife in zhangjiajie is pretty low key compared to big chinese cities. most action is around the wulingyuan area, not the main city center itself. there's a street near the wulingyuan bus station with a few small bars that get busy around 9pm, mostly with backpackers and young locals. if you want something more chill, try the sky bar at the pullman hotel in zhangjiajie national forest area. it's a bit pricier but the view of the peaks at night is unreal. just don't expect clubs or anything past midnight, things wind down early here
tbh the best thing to do after dark in zhangjiajie is catch the light show at baofeng lake, about 20 mins from wulingyuan. it's a bit touristy but the lasers on the karst cliffs are pretty wild, runs from 7 to 9pm usually. after that, there's a small night market on junzhi street with grilled skewers and stinky tofu, grab a beer from the convenience store and just hang on the benches near the lake. not a bar scene at all but way more authentic than the hotel lounges
wulingyuan has a few karaoke places tucked in the alley behind the main square, super cheap and fun if you're with a group. not fancy at all but you'll hear locals belting out c-pop until 1am, way more lively than the hotel bars

Buy tickets online in advance to avoid long queues, especially for the Bailong Elevator and Tianmen Mountain cable car. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring rain gear, as weather can change quickly. Start your days early (by 7:30 AM) to beat the crowds and finish by late afternoon.
One thing this guide doesn't mention is that the Bailong Elevator ride itself is only about 90 seconds. You queue for an hour or more to get in that glass box and it's over before you really take it in. If you're fit, the walk up the mountain path from the Golden Whip Stream entrance takes about two hours but gives you a much better sense of the scale of the place.
For the Grand Canyon glass bridge, they make you wear these fabric shoe covers so you don't scratch the glass. Bring a pair of thin socks because the rental ones are worn thin and your feet can feel the cold metal underneath. Also, if you're nervous about heights, walk on the far left side where the support beams are, you won't see straight down.
The tujia bacon mentioned in the guide is worth seeking out specifically at a restaurant called Tujia Renjia on the main strip in Wulingyuan. It's smoked over pine wood and has a strong flavor that's different from what you'd get at home. Order it with the steamed pumpkin, it cuts through the richness nicely.
this is a solid plan tbh, but you're missing one thing - the golden monkey trail at yuanjiajie. it's a 2km loop off the main path that most tour groups skip, takes about 45 minutes and you'll see way fewer people. the views of the quartzite pillars from that side are actually better than the main hallelujah mountain viewpoint in my opinion
for day 1 afternoon, the glass bridge is cool but gets packed by 2pm. if you can rearrange your schedule, go there first thing in the morning instead, then hit yuanjiajie after lunch. the light for photos is also better on the bridge before 10am when the sun's behind you
one thing about wulingyuan town restaurants - the ones right at the entrance are tourist traps with inflated prices. walk two blocks east to jiefang road, there's a row of places where locals eat. i had a great tujia bacon and bamboo rice meal for 35 yuan there, half what they charge near the gate
The guide is right about starting early, but 7:30 might not be early enough for Tianmen Mountain in peak season. I went in October and queued an hour for the cable car even with a 7 AM ticket. If you can handle the walk, the bus option up the mountain road is only 30 yuan and skips most of the wait, though you miss the cable car views.
For food in Wulingyuan, skip the restaurants with English menus and look for the ones with just Chinese characters and pictures. I found a place on Suoxi Road that did a whole fish hotpot for 80 yuan, enough for two people. The staff didn't speak English but pointed at the tank and showed me the fish alive, which was a nice touch.
One thing nobody mentioned is that the weather on the mountains can be completely different from the town. I wore shorts in Wulingyuan and froze on Tianmen top. Bring a light jacket even in summer, the wind up there cuts through you.
