yeah that's a solid guide, i live near yanjiang road and the food street there is underrated for dinner. there's a spot called heping xiaochi about halfway down, no sign in english, just a red lantern out front, they do these stuffed lotus root cakes with pork and ginger that are incredible. 10 yuan for three pieces and they fry them to order so the outside gets crispy while the filling stays juicy. also if you go to the morning market on yushui west road, the rice rolls are good but the real move is the guy selling youtiao from a cart near the south entrance, he's there from 5:30am and his dough is lighter than the others, 2 yuan each
the guide nailed it with the beihu road night market but honestly the best thing there isnt even listed. stall No. 3, right next to the entrance, does these sesame cakes stuffed with pickled radish that are insane. theyre 4 yuan each and come out piping hot from a clay oven. i grab two every time i go, one to eat right there and one for the walk home. also if youre at laojie restaurant, ask for the stir fried water spinach with fermented tofu sauce, its not on the menu but theyll make it if they have the greens in season
