Heading to Xianyang in 4 months, any hidden gems?
most people hit the yangling mausoleum and call it done but the hanyangling underground museum is way more interesting tbh. they've got the actual excavation pits with tiny terracotta figures that are way more detailed than the big ones in xi'an. it's about 20 minutes north on the 208 and only like 30 yuan entry
if you want food go to the night market on xianyang middle road near the bell tower. the liangpi there is better than anything you'll find in the tourist spots and it's like 8 yuan a bowl. the vendors don't speak much english but pointing works fine
if you're into old architecture the xianyang confucius temple on zhongshan street is usually empty. it's this quiet little courtyard complex tucked between modern buildings, free entry, and the stone stelae inside are from the ming dynasty. takes like 20 minutes to walk through but it's a nice break from the crowds
also check out the feng river valley if you want a hike, it's about 30 minutes southwest of town. there's this old abandoned temple halfway up with a view over the whole plain, barely any tourists go there cause the trail isn't marked well. bring water and wear good shoes
honestly the weihe river walkway at sunset is way better than any museum. locals hang out there fishing and doing tai chi, feels more real than the tourist stuff

honestly the guide's got most of the basics covered but i'd say skip the official museum ticket and head straight to the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Site Park instead. it's like 10 minutes east of the city, 45 RMB entry, and you can walk the actual burial mound path where the terracotta army was originally placed. most people just go to xi'an's pits but this is where the real history sits, theres a small exhibition hall with some original bronze chariots that are insane up close
also for food, the persimmon cakes are fine but the real move is the cold skin noodles at a place called Zhang Ji on Jiefang Road. they do this sesame sauce version that's like 8 RMB and it's the best thing on a hot day. the owner's an old guy who's been making them since the 80s, you'll see the giant wok of boiling noodles out front
really helpful guide, esp for first-timers to xianyang. one thing i'd add is the Han Yang Ling Museum, it's like 20 mins south by cab and way less crowded than the big attractions. the underground exhibition hall lets you walk right over the excavation pits, you can see these tiny ceramic figures and actual animal skeletons still in situ from the Han dynasty. entry was 80 RMB last i went and they have these glass floors that make you feel like you're floating over the dig
also for the night market, if you're there on a weekend they sometimes have shadow puppet shows near the north entrance around 8pm. it's free just a guy with a screen and some puppets but it's pretty magical if you catch it
solid list, one thing i'd add is the Yangjiawan Terracotta Army site out in the eastern suburbs. way smaller than the one in xi'an but you can get right up close to the pits, no crowds at all. cost me like 35 RMB and i had the whole place to myself for an hour
also for getting around, the shared e-bikes are everywhere now and way easier than trying to figure out bus routes. just scan and go, prob 2-3 RMB for a short ride
