Headed to Xiangxiang next month and wanna skip the tourist traps. Any under the radar spots I shouldn't miss? Headed to Xiangxiang next month and wanna skip the tourist traps. Any under the radar spots I shouldn't miss?

honestly skip the main temple area and head to the old alley behind the Xiangxiang Theater, it's called Laojie Xiang. there's a tiny noodle shop there run by an old couple, their zhajiangmian is legit and costs like 8 yuan. also check out the abandoned railway bridge near Dongshan Park around sunset, locals fish there but nobody else seems to know about it

oh man the old cinema on jiefang road is something else. it's been closed for years but the facade still has this gorgeous art deco tilework nobody bothers to photograph. right across the street there's a lady who sets up a little stall selling tanghulu around 4pm, she uses local hawthorn berries that are way tarter than the ones in the city. also if you walk to the end of the alley behind the post office you'll find a community courtyard with a massive ancient ginkgo tree, the neighbors hang lanterns there during festivals but it's totally empty any other day

if u want something really off the beaten path, find the old water tower at the end of Renmin Road. it's covered in moss and has a staircase that's technically locked but locals climb over the fence, the view of the whole city from up there is wild especially at golden hour. also there's a guy who sells grilled tofu skewers from a cart near the north gate of Bijiashan Park around 6pm, he's been doing it for like 20 years and his spicy sauce is homemade, way better than any restaurant version.
