fwiw if you're into architecture shots the Weinan Confucian Temple complex has these insane carved wooden beams that most tourists walk right past. the light filters through the old lattice windows around 2pm and casts these patterns on the stone floor. also the little alleyway behind the Renmin Road market has a mural of an old Qin dynasty scene that's completely faded but still super photogenic in black and white. prob better to hit that on a weekday when there's less foot traffic
honestly the Huashan mountain shots are obvious but nobody talks about the view from the Xiyue Temple grounds at sunrise. the contrast of those old temple rooftops against the mountain face is killer, especially when the light hits the granite. also check out the old city wall near the Dongmen area around 4pm, the shadows get long and the locals walking by make for great candid street photo material. the Weinan Museum courtyard has a weirdly photogenic stone lion collection that nobody mentions, free entry too
The Wei River banks near the pedestrian bridge have a quiet industrial vibe that's great for contrast shots.

🏔️ Morning at Huashan
Head to Huashan Scenic Area (Huashan Road, Huayin City) by 9:00 AM; it's about a 30-minute drive from central Weinan. Take the cable car up to the North Peak for stunning views, costing around 140 RMB round trip. Spend 3-4 hours exploring the plank walk and peaks before descending.

After descending, grab lunch at a local restaurant near the Huashan entrance, such as Huashan Renjia (address: 1 Huashan Road). Try the biangbiang noodles or local lamb dishes, with meals averaging 30-50 RMB per person. Allow 1 hour for a relaxed meal.

Weinan has two main train stations: Weinan Station (conventional) and Weinan North Station (high-speed). For high-speed rail to Xi'an or elsewhere, use Weinan North Station, which is a 20-minute taxi ride from the city center (25 RMB). Allow 30 minutes for security checks.
solid plan, i've done the huashan part a few times and the guide's right about the north peak cable car but the real move is taking the west peak line up and hiking down through the canglong ridge, it's a bit more physical but you skip the worst of the queue and the views on the way down are incredible. for dinner on day 1, skip chaoyang street and head to the little alley behind the weinan museum instead, there's a place called lao wang's that does a lamb paomo that's way better than anything on the main strip. the hancheng day is solid too but the confucian temple gets busy after 10 am, so if you get there early you'll have it mostly to yourself.
This is a solid plan, I've done a similar route a few times. One thing the guide doesn't mention is that the cable car line at Huashan can get really long by mid-morning, especially on weekends. If you can, get there by 8:00 AM instead of 9:00 to beat the queue, you'll have more time on the peaks before the crowds show up.
For the Hancheng day, the Sima Qian Temple is worth the extra walk up the hill. The view over the Yellow River from up there is better than anything in the ancient city itself, and it's usually much quieter. The bus back to Weinan from Hancheng is fine but the last one leaves at 5:30 PM, not 6:00 like the guide says, so keep an eye on the clock.
On your final day, instead of Shimen Mountain, I'd suggest the less crowded Shaohua Mountain trail. It's about the same distance from the city center, the taxi will cost around 40 RMB, and the hike gives you a great view of the Weihe River valley without the Qinling crowds. The Pedestrian Street on Renmin Road is good for souvenirs but the prices near the main entrance are inflated, walk a block in and the shops are cheaper.
good plan, i've been to weinan a few times for work and the huashan cable car tip about going early is key. one thing i'd add is the weinan museum on day 1 is actually worth popping into if you can make it before 5, they've got a small collection of tang dynasty pottery that's pretty impressive for a free museum. for the hancheng day, the bus is reliable but the station in weinan can be chaotic, buy your ticket at the counter inside not from the guys outside who'll try to charge you double. also on day 3 if you finish the hike early the pedestrian street has a decent tea house on the second floor of the building at the north end, quiet spot to rest before your train and the jasmine tea is only 15 rmb.
