🍜 Hainan Noodles and More
Start your Sanya food journey with a bowl of Hainan noodles, a local staple found everywhere from street stalls to sit-down restaurants. For a classic version, head to 阿婆抱罗粉 on Jiefang Road, where a bowl costs around 15-20 yuan and is served from 7 AM to 2 PM. Another must-try is 海南粉, a thinner noodle dish often topped with peanuts, cilantro, and a savory sauce. Look for small shops in the 第一市场 area, where you can grab a bowl for under 10 yuan.

🦞 Seafood at First Market
No trip to Sanya is complete without a seafood feast at 第一市场 (First Market) on Xinjian Street. Here, you pick your own live seafood, then take it to a nearby cookshop for preparation, paying around 50-100 yuan per person depending on your choices. The market is busiest from 5 PM to 10 PM, so arrive early to avoid the crowds. Try local specialties like steamed grouper, garlic prawns, and spicy stir-fried crabs.

🍢 Street Food Stalls
Sanya's street food scene shines in the evenings along 商品街 (Shangpin Street) and near 三亚湾 (Sanya Bay). You'll find grilled squid skewers for 10 yuan, fresh coconut for 8-10 yuan, and 清补凉 (a coconut milk dessert with beans and fruit) for about 12 yuan. Vendors typically set up from 6 PM to midnight, and cash or WeChat Pay is accepted. Don't miss the 烤生蚝 (grilled oysters) with garlic, a local favorite at 5-8 yuan each.

🍚 Hainanese Chicken Rice
Hainanese chicken rice is a signature dish of the region, and Sanya has several excellent spots. 文昌鸡饭店 on 河西路 (Hexi Road) serves tender poached chicken with fragrant rice for around 40-60 yuan per person, open daily from 10 AM to 9 PM. Another reliable choice is 龙泉人文茶店, a local chain with multiple branches, where a set meal costs about 50 yuan. The chicken is typically served with a ginger-garlic dipping sauce and a bowl of clear soup.

🥥 Coconut and Tropical Treats
Sanya is coconut heaven, and you'll see fresh coconuts sold everywhere for 8-15 yuan. For a refreshing dessert, try 椰子冻 (coconut jelly) at 椰语堂 on 解放路 (Jiefang Road), priced around 25 yuan per serving. Another local favorite is 芒果肠粉, a mango rice roll dessert found at street stalls for about 15 yuan. These treats are perfect for cooling down after a day at the beach.

🍽️ Local Restaurant Picks
For a sit-down meal with air conditioning, head to 张猫猫的店 on 大东海 (Dadonghai) area, known for its creative Hainan dishes and average spending of 80-120 yuan per person. 林姐香味海鲜 in 第一市场 is another popular spot, famous for its spicy crab and garlic scallops, with meals around 100-150 yuan per person. Both places fill up quickly, so reserve ahead or arrive before 6 PM. Opening hours are generally 11 AM to 10 PM.

🌙 Night Markets and Late Eats
When the sun sets, Sanya's night markets come alive, especially 三亚千古情夜市 and 大东海夜市. These markets run from 6 PM to midnight and offer everything from grilled meats to tropical fruit smoothies. Prices are reasonable: most skewers are 5-15 yuan, and a full meal can be had for under 50 yuan. It's a great way to sample multiple dishes in one go.

💡 Practical Food Tips
Most local restaurants and stalls accept WeChat Pay and Alipay, but carrying small cash is wise for older vendors. Tipping is not customary, and prices are generally fixed, though you can bargain at seafood markets. If you have dietary restrictions, learn a few Chinese phrases like 不要辣 (no spicy) or 不要香菜 (no cilantro). Peak dining hours are 12-1 PM and 6-8 PM, so plan accordingly to avoid long waits.

the guide's solid but nobody ever mentions 抱罗粉 vs 海南粉 properly. 抱罗粉 is the thick round one with the sticky brown gravy, 海南粉 is thin and gets the lighter sauce. if you only try one you're missing half the point.

one thing the post skips: 港门粉 out in 崖城, a good 40 min drive from downtown but the broth is pork bone and it's like 8 yuan a bowl. locals drive out there on weekends for it. opens early, done by noon usually.

also for 第一市场, the move is to buy your seafood then walk it to 四川小胡子 instead of the cookshops right behind the market. same setup, less queue, they don't jack the prep fee

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

solid list, the 阿婆抱罗粉 call is right. one thing i'd add for 第一市场: go around 4:30pm not 5, the good grouper and mantis shrimp sell out first and the cookshop queue gets brutal after 6. also the cookshops behind the market charge by weight plus a prep fee per dish (usually 15-30 yuan), so ask before you commit or you'll get surprised at the total. oh and 清补凉 is way better at the small stalls on 商品街 than the fancy shops, half teh price too.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Good writeup, the 清补凉 and coconut jelly picks are spot on. One thing I'd add from my last trip: for 文昌鸡, skip the big names and try the small family spots tucked in the lanes off 商品街, they're cheaper and the chicken is usually fresher. Also worth knowing that most of these places close up shop during Spring Festival week, so if you're coming in late January or early February, call ahead or you'll be eating convenience store noodles.

🗓️ Overview and Planning
This 3-day itinerary groups activities by neighborhood to minimize transit time. Day 1 covers Sanya Bay and downtown, Day 2 focuses on Yalong Bay, and Day 3 explores Haitang Bay. Plan for 30-60 minute taxi rides between these areas, costing 50-150 CNY depending on distance.

🏖️ Day 1 Morning: Sanya Bay
Start at 8:00 AM with a walk along Sanya Bay's 17-kilometer beach, known for its sunset views but peaceful in the morning. Visit the nearby Coconut Dream Corridor, a free public park with coconut palms and exercise stations. For breakfast, try a local noodle shop on Jiefang Road, where a bowl of Hainan noodles costs around 15 CNY.

🏙️ Day 1 Afternoon: Downtown
After lunch, head to downtown Sanya to explore the First Market, a bustling area for fresh seafood and local produce. Then visit the Sanya Romance Park, which offers cultural shows and a panoramic view of the city; entry is 120 CNY and it's open from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Use taxis or ride-hailing apps like Didi to get around; a ride within downtown costs about 10-20 CNY.

🌃 Day 1 Evening: Night Market
In the evening, return to the First Market area for dinner at one of the seafood stalls, where you can pick fresh seafood and have it cooked for about 100-200 CNY per person. After dinner, stroll through the night market on Hexi Road, which sells souvenirs and local snacks until midnight. End your day with a relaxing walk along Sanya Bay to see the sunset if you time it right (sunset is around 6:30 PM in winter).

🏝️ Day 2 Morning: Yalong Bay
Take a taxi or bus to Yalong Bay, about 30 minutes from downtown (taxi costs 60-80 CNY). Spend the morning at Yalong Bay Beach, often called the 'Oriental Hawaii' for its clear water and white sand. The beach is free, but lounge chairs and umbrellas rent for about 50 CNY. For a unique experience, visit the Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park, where the glass bridge and zip lines offer stunning views; entry is 140 CNY and it opens at 7:30 AM.

🐠 Day 2 Afternoon: Snorkeling
After lunch at a beachside restaurant (expect to pay 80-150 CNY for a meal), join a snorkeling or diving tour at Yalong Bay. Tours typically last 2-3 hours and cost around 300-500 CNY, including equipment. Alternatively, visit the Yalong Bay Shell Museum, which displays over 300 species of shells; entry is 50 CNY and it's open from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

🍽️ Day 2 Evening: Seafood Dinner
For dinner, head to the Yalong Bay Food Street, where you can choose from various seafood restaurants. A typical meal for two with crab, shrimp, and vegetables costs about 200-300 CNY. After dinner, enjoy a live music performance at one of the beach bars, or simply relax on the beach under the stars. Taxis back to downtown are available until late, but it's easier to stay overnight in Yalong Bay if your budget allows.

🛍️ Day 3 Morning: Haitang Bay
On your final day, travel to Haitang Bay, about 40 minutes by taxi from Yalong Bay (cost 80-100 CNY). Start at the Haitang Bay Duty-Free Shopping Center, one of the world's largest duty-free malls, opening at 10:00 AM. Even if you're not shopping, it's worth a visit for the architecture and dining options. For beach time, head to Haitang Bay Beach, which is quieter than Yalong Bay.

🌴 Day 3 Afternoon: Nature and Culture
After lunch at the duty-free mall's food court (meals from 30-60 CNY), visit the Binglanggu Li and Miao Cultural Heritage Park, about 20 minutes away by taxi. The park showcases traditional villages and performances; entry is 120 CNY and it's open from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Alternatively, if you prefer nature, explore the Wuzhizhou Island, a small island with excellent diving spots; ferry and entry cost about 150 CNY.

✈️ Day 3 Evening: Departure Tips
For your last evening, return to Sanya city center or head directly to Sanya Phoenix International Airport, which is about 30 minutes from Haitang Bay by taxi (cost 100-120 CNY). If you have time, have a final meal at a restaurant near the airport, such as the seafood stalls in the nearby town. Most flights depart in the evening, so allow at least 2 hours for check-in and security. Taxis and ride-hailing are readily available, but book in advance during peak hours.

this covers the big spots well, but if you're into hiking at all i'd swap one beach day for Linchunling. it's free, the trail up through the forest takes about 40 min, and from the top you get the whole sweep of Sanya Bay plus the downtown skyline. locals go early, like 6-7am, before the heat hits. bring water cause there's nothing up there.

also on day 1, the noodle spot on Jiefang Road is fine but the good Hainan noodle places are actually in the side lanes off Jiefang, look for the ones with plastic stools out front and a line of people at 7am. a bowl is 12-15 CNY and way better than the tourist-facing spots.

arrow_drop_up 21 arrow_drop_down

The sunset timing tip is worth flagging: in summer it's closer to 7:15 PM, so the walk along Sanya Bay works better after dinner than before. Also, if you're going to Wuzhizhou Island on Day 3, book the ferry slot a day ahead through WeChat, walk-up tickets sell out by mid-morning in peak season and you'll lose half a day waiting.

One correction on the Haitang Bay duty-free mall: it opens at 10 AM but the crowds hit hardest right at opening, so arriving around 11:30 gets you in after the first wave. The food court there is fine but the noodles at the small stand near the north exit are cheaper and better.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

honestly the neighborhood grouping is the best part of this, most itineraries have you zigzagging across the whole city. one thing nobody mentioned yet: for day 2 snorkeling, skip the hotel tour desks and just walk up to the dive shops right at the Yalong Bay public beach entrance, they'll do the same trip for like 180-250 instead of 400+. also if you're not a strong swimmer tell them upfront, some operators just dump you in deep water. the shell museum is a nice rainy day backup btw, surprisingly decent for 50 kuai
