🏞️ Explore Hongfeng Lake
Hongfeng Lake, about 30 kilometers west of Qingzhen city center, is a vast reservoir dotted with over 170 islands. Rent a boat from the main pier (around 80 yuan per hour for a small boat) to hop between islands, or simply stroll the lakeside boardwalk. The best time to visit is spring or autumn when the weather is mild and the crowds are thinner. Buses from Qingzhen Bus Station leave every 30 minutes from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and cost 10 yuan.

πŸ•³οΈ Discover Zhijin Cave
Zhijin Cave, one of China's largest karst caves, is a 2-hour drive from Qingzhen but worth the trip. The cave stretches over 6 kilometers and features towering stalactites and underground rivers. Entry is 120 yuan for adults, with discounts for students and seniors. Guided tours run hourly from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the cave stays cool year-round, so bring a light jacket.

🏯 Wander Old Town Streets
Qingzhen's old town, centered around the Ming-era Chaoyang Gate, offers a glimpse of traditional Guizhou architecture. The streets are lined with wooden shops selling local crafts and snacks like siwawa (rice rolls) for 5 yuan each. Visit in the late afternoon when the lanterns light up and locals gather for evening strolls. It's a compact area, easily explored on foot in an hour or two.

🍜 Taste Local Flavors
Qingzhen is famous for its beef noodles, and a bowl at Liu Er Beef Noodle (near the bus station) costs around 15 yuan. For a heartier meal, try suan tang yu (sour fish soup) at Miao Family Restaurant on Zhonghua Road, where a large pot serves two for 80 yuan. Street stalls in the night market on Renmin Road sell grilled tofu and rice wine from 6:00 PM to midnight. Don't miss the chance to sample these authentic Guizhou tastes.

🚌 Getting Around Town
Qingzhen has a reliable bus network with fares at 2 yuan per ride, and taxis start at 6 yuan for the first 3 kilometers. For day trips to Hongfeng Lake or Zhijin Cave, consider hiring a car with a driver for about 300 yuan per day. Ride-hailing apps like Didi work well in the city center, but coverage is spotty in rural areas. Bicycles are also a great way to explore the flat riverside paths.

🏨 Where to Stay
For convenience, the Qingzhen Hotel on Hongfeng Avenue offers clean rooms from 200 yuan per night and is close to restaurants and shops. Budget travelers can find hostels near the train station for under 100 yuan, while luxury seekers might prefer the Hongfeng Lake Resort, with rooms starting at 500 yuan. Book ahead during holidays like National Day, when rooms fill up quickly. Most hotels include breakfast and free Wi-Fi.

πŸŽ‰ Join Local Festivals
If you're in Qingzhen during the Lunar New Year, don't miss the lantern festival at Chaoyang Gate, featuring dragon dances and fireworks. The Miao ethnic group celebrates the Sisters' Meal Festival in April, where you can try colorful sticky rice and watch traditional dances. In August, the Hongfeng Lake Music Festival draws crowds with local bands and food stalls. Check with the tourist information center on Zhongshan Road for exact dates and tickets.

🌿 Relax in Parks
Qingzhen People's Park on Chengbei Road is a peaceful spot with a small lake and walking trails, free to enter from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. For a quieter experience, head to Baihua Lake Scenic Area, 20 kilometers northeast, where you can picnic by the water for a 20 yuan entrance fee. Both parks are popular with locals for morning tai chi and evening jogging. Bring a book and enjoy the greenery.

The guide's solid, but skip the boat rental and take the local ferry across Hongfeng Lake instead, it's a few yuan and you get the same views.

πŸ—“οΈ Planning Your Trip
Qingzhen is a county-level city in Guizhou Province, about 30 kilometers west of Guiyang. The best time to visit is from March to October, when the weather is mild and the karst landscapes are lush. For a 3-day trip, base yourself in the city center near the Qingzhen Railway Station or the bus terminal for easy access to local transport. Public buses cost 2 yuan per ride, and taxis start at 8 yuan for the first 3 kilometers.

🚌 Getting Around Qingzhen
Qingzhen has a compact city center, but many attractions are in the surrounding countryside. Local buses like Route 1 and Route 2 connect the train station, bus station, and main commercial streets. For day trips to places like Hongfeng Lake, you can take a minibus from the Qingzhen Bus Station; the ride takes about 40 minutes and costs around 10 yuan. Taxis are plentiful but always ask the driver to use the meter.

🏞️ Day 1: City Highlights
Start your first day at 8:00 AM with a bowl of local beef noodles at a street stall near the Qingzhen Market. Then visit the Qingzhen Museum on Wenhua Road to learn about the region's history and ethnic culture; entry is free and it opens at 9:00 AM. After lunch, head to the Dongshan Temple, a peaceful Buddhist site on the eastern hill, and climb to the top for a panoramic view of the city. In the evening, stroll along the Qingzhen River promenade and enjoy dinner at a riverside restaurant.

🌊 Day 2: Hongfeng Lake
On day 2, take a 40-minute minibus from Qingzhen Bus Station to Hongfeng Lake, a scenic area known for its karst islands and clear water. The entrance fee is 40 yuan, and boat tours around the lake cost an additional 60 yuan. Spend the morning hiking or cycling along the lakeside paths, then have lunch at one of the fish restaurants near the dock. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Dong and Miao ethnic villages to see traditional architecture and handicrafts.

⛰️ Day 3: Countryside and Caves
For your final day, rent a car or hire a taxi for a trip to the Zhijin Cave, one of China's largest karst caves, about 1.5 hours from Qingzhen. The cave is open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and the entrance fee is 120 yuan. Alternatively, stay closer and explore the Baihua Lake area, which is only 30 minutes away and offers hiking trails and picnic spots. Return to Qingzhen by late afternoon to catch your onward transport.

🍜 Where to Eat
Qingzhen is famous for its beef noodles, and you'll find excellent versions at small shops around the bus station and along Zhonghua Road. A bowl typically costs 10 to 15 yuan. For a more substantial meal, try the local hot pot with sour fish or the spicy chicken dishes at restaurants near the river. Street food stalls in the evening market sell snacks like fried potatoes and tofu skewers for 5 to 10 yuan.

🏨 Accommodation Tips
Most visitors stay in the city center, where hotels like the Qingzhen Hotel and various budget chains offer rooms from 150 to 300 yuan per night. For a more scenic option, consider guesthouses near Hongfeng Lake, though they are pricier and fill up on weekends. Book ahead during Chinese holidays, as rooms can sell out quickly. All accommodations require your passport for check-in.

πŸ’‘ Practical Advice
The local currency is the Chinese yuan, and while mobile payments are common, carry some cash for small vendors and rural areas. The weather can change quickly, so pack a rain jacket and comfortable walking shoes. English is not widely spoken, so having a translation app or a few basic Mandarin phrases will help. The area code for Qingzhen is 0851, and the emergency number for police is 110.

nice effort on this. one thing i'd flag: mobile payments basically rule everywhere now, even the tiny noodle shops, so don't stress about carrying much cash. i got caught out at a rural stall near Baihua Lake that only took WeChat though, so keep a few hundred yuan just in case. also Qingzhen's train station has fast trains to Guiyang taking under 20 min, way better than the bus if you're day tripping.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Worth adding: Zhijin Cave is actually in Zhijin County, not Qingzhen, so 1.5 hours is optimistic. I did it as an overnight from Guiyang instead. If you only have 3 days, skip it and do Baihua Lake plus the Dong villages near Hongfeng. Less rushing, better payoff.

The guide is solid. One thing I'd add from my visit: the Hongfeng Lake minibuses leave when full, not on a schedule, so get to Qingzhen Bus Station before 9am or you'll wait an hour.
