🏯 Day 1: Ancient Town Core
Start at 8:30 AM at the Luocheng Ancient Town entrance (No. 1, Zhengfu Street). Walk the main lane to the Confucian Temple (open 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, entry 30 yuan), then explore the Ming and Qing dynasty courtyards along Renmin Road. Lunch at Chen's Bean Curd (12 Renmin Road) for 15 yuan set meals. In the afternoon, visit the Luocheng Old Theater (2:00 PM show, 50 yuan) and the local history museum (free, closed Mondays).

🚢 Day 1 Evening: Riverside Walk
From 5:30 PM, stroll the Riverside Promenade along the Min River, starting near the East Gate. Dinner at Riverside Fish House (88 Binjiang Road) serves grilled river fish for 60 to 80 yuan per person. After 8:00 PM, the night market on Fuxing Street lights up with snacks like fried rice cakes (5 yuan) and sweet fermented rice (8 yuan). The area is compact, so walking between spots takes under 10 minutes.

⛰️ Day 2 Morning: West Hill
Take bus 3 from the Ancient Town North Gate at 7:30 AM to West Hill Scenic Area (20 minutes, 2 yuan). Hike to the summit pavilion for panoramic views (entry 50 yuan, open 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM). The trail is steep in parts, so wear comfortable shoes. Return to town by 12:30 PM for lunch at Hillview Noodle Shop (5 Xishan Road), where a bowl of beef noodles costs 18 yuan.

🍜 Day 2 Afternoon: Food Streets
From 1:30 PM, explore the food stalls on Zhongshan Street, known for Luocheng smoked duck (40 yuan per half) and sesame cakes (3 yuan each). Then walk 10 minutes to the Tea Culture Museum (free, open 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM) for a tasting session (20 yuan). At 4:00 PM, join a dumpling-making workshop at the Old Kitchen (22 Zhongshan Street, 50 yuan, reserve a day ahead).

πŸŒƒ Day 2 Evening: Night Cruise
Board the Min River night cruise at 7:30 PM from the East Gate Pier (tickets 80 yuan, one hour). The boat passes illuminated bridges and traditional houses. After the cruise, grab a late snack at Night Owl Congee (15 Fuxing Street), open until 1:00 AM. Taxis back to most hotels in the ancient town cost around 10 yuan.

🚌 Day 3 Morning: Countryside
Catch bus 5 at 8:00 AM from the South Bus Station to Luocheng Bamboo Forest (30 minutes, 3 yuan). Walk the bamboo trails (entry 40 yuan, open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) and visit the small tea plantation on site. Return to town by 12:30 PM and have lunch at Bamboo Grove Restaurant (1 Bamboo Road), where bamboo shoot dishes start at 25 yuan.

πŸ›οΈ Day 3 Afternoon: Shopping
From 2:00 PM, shop for souvenirs on Old Street, including handmade scissors (30 to 100 yuan) and embroidered pouches (15 yuan). The Luocheng Handicraft Center (45 Old Street) offers demonstrations every hour. For last-minute snacks, visit the supermarket at 10 Jiefang Road, open until 10:00 PM. Most shops accept mobile payments but keep some cash for small vendors.

πŸš• Getting Around and Tips
Luocheng is compact, so walking covers most of the ancient town in 15 to 20 minutes. Buses 3 and 5 connect to outer attractions for 2 to 3 yuan per ride, and taxis start at 8 yuan. A taxi from the high-speed rail station to the ancient town takes 25 minutes and costs about 40 yuan. In 2026, expect higher weekend crowds, so book hotels and workshops at least three days ahead.

The itinerary is thorough, and the timing on Day 1 is realistic. One thing I'd adjust: the theater show at 2:00 PM is the tourist-facing one, but if you walk five minutes past it to the small teahouse on the lane behind the Confucian Temple, there's a storytelling performance most afternoons around 3:30 where locals actually go, no ticket, you just buy a pot of tea for 10 yuan or so. The dialect is thick, but the atmosphere is worth it even if you catch half.

On Day 3, the bamboo forest is lovely but the tea plantation visit is more of a viewing deck than a working farm. If you want to see actual picking and roasting, the family operation up the hill past the entrance gate lets you join for about 30 yuan, cash only. Ask at the ticket booth, they'll point you to it.

this is a really thorough plan, covers stuff most guides skip. one thing i'd flag on day 2: the tea culture museum tasting is nice but the actual tea shops on the lane behind it sell the same local green for way less, like 40 yuan for 100g vs the tourist markup inside. also nobody warns you the west hill trail gets slippery after rain, the stone steps near the top hold water for a day or two so plan that hike for your driest morning.

on the night cruise, book the 7:30 slot but show up by 7:10, they sell more tickets than seats on weekends and it's first come. left side is right for the bridges like the other person said.

good guide, covers way more than most luocheng writeups. one thing though, the dumpling workshop at old kitchen is fun but if u want the real thing just walk down to the wet market off jiefang rd around 7am, the aunties selling fresh tofu there will let u watch if u buy something, its way cheaper than 50 yuan. also the fried rice cakes at fuxing night market are better at the second stall from the corner, the first one waters down their sauce imo.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Day 1 Overview
Start your trip in the old town center, where most attractions cluster. Plan to walk between sites, as the area is compact and car-free. This day focuses on history and local culture, ending with a riverside dinner.

πŸ›οΈ Morning: Old Town
Begin at the Luocheng Ancient City Wall, built in the Ming Dynasty, and walk along its restored sections. Then visit the Confucian Temple at 12 Zhongshan Road, open 8:30 to 17:30, with a 20 yuan entry fee. Allow two hours for both sites, including a short break at the nearby tea house.

🍜 Lunch: Local Noodles
For lunch, head to Laochen Noodle Shop at 45 East Street, famous for its beef and river snail noodles. A bowl costs around 15 yuan and is served until 14:00. Try the spicy version if you like heat, and pair it with a cold soybean milk.

🏞️ Afternoon: Riverside Walk
After lunch, stroll along the Luo River promenade, starting at the South Gate and heading west. The walk takes about 40 minutes and passes the old ferry dock and several restored stilt houses. Stop at the Luocheng Folk Museum, open until 17:00, with free entry on weekdays.

πŸŒ† Evening: Night Market
As dusk falls, explore the night market on West Street, which runs from 18:00 to 23:00. Sample grilled skewers, sticky rice cakes, and local fruit wines from the stalls. For dinner, try the fish hotpot at Riverside Restaurant, a 10-minute walk from the market, with mains averaging 60 yuan.

🚌 Day 2 Transport
On day two, take bus 3 from the central station to the northern suburbs, a 25-minute ride costing 2 yuan. Alternatively, a taxi costs about 15 yuan and takes 15 minutes. Plan to leave by 9:00 to avoid the morning rush.

⛰️ Morning: Mountain Hike
Start at Qinglong Mountain, where the main trailhead is near the bus stop. The hike to the summit takes about 1.5 hours and offers views of the entire valley. There is a 30 yuan entrance fee, and the park opens at 8:00. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes, as the path is steep in places.

🏯 Afternoon: Temple Visit
After descending, visit the White Cloud Temple, a 10-minute walk from the mountain base. This active monastery dates to the Tang Dynasty and features beautiful murals. Entry is free, but donations are appreciated. Spend an hour here before heading back to the city center for a relaxed dinner at a local farmhouse restaurant.

solid plan overall, the river walk is the best part imo. if you got time after the folk museum, keep heading west past the stilt houses, there's a tiny bridge that locals use to cross to the other bank. the view back at sunset is way better than the main promenade, and you'll see kids jumping off the rocks there.

for day 2, the farmhouse dinner spot, most of them are on the road back toward town, look for the ones with the big clay pots out front, they do a mean bamboo chicken that the guide doesnt mention. also skip the temple if it's raining, the murals get dim and the floor gets slick as hell, not worth the slip.

arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

honestly this itinerary is pretty solid, i've done almost exactly this route before. the noodle shop is a good call but if you're there after 2pm they close, so dont be late. for the night market, skip the fruit wines near the entrance, the stalls further in charge less and the old lady at the third row makes a killer plum wine.

one thing the guide misses: the folk museum has a small courtyard out back with a giant old banyan tree, most tourists walk right past it. great spot to sit for 10 minutes and cool off. also, if you're doing the mountain on day 2, start even earlier than 9 if you can, the shade disappears by 10 and that last stretch is brutal in the sun. bring more water than you think you need.

been to luocheng twice & the confucian temple's tea house actually pours free refills if u buy a snack, most ppl miss that
