Day trips from Jingdezhen?

I'm heading to Jingdezhen in a couple months and want to plan a couple day trips outside the city. Any recommendations for nearby towns or villages worth a visit, especially for pottery or scenery? honestly yaoli ancient town is prob your best bet for scenery, it's about an hour drive northeast. the walk along the river with those old ming/qing dynasty buildings is gorgeous, way less touristy than wuyuan. if you want to see where they actually dig up the kaolin clay for porcelain, there's a small village called gaoling on the way that has these old mining pits you can hike around for free

for pottery stuff fuping village is solid, it's closer maybe 30 minutes south. tons of small workshops where you can watch them throw pots and they're way less pushy about selling than the studios in town. i remember grabbing lunch there at a little noodle spot that had these handmade bowls that were like 5 kuai each, still use one at home

sanbaoshan is worth a morning if you're into the art scene, it's like 20 mins from downtown and has this weird mix of abandoned factories turned into studios. there's a guy there who fires his kiln with local pine wood and the ash glaze effects are insane, totally different from the polished stuff you see in the city galleries. grab a coffee at the little shack near the entrance, they use miso in their latte and it works somehow

if you want something completely off the radar, take the bus to lizhou village about 45 mins west. it's not on any tourist map but there's an old lady who still does the traditional blue-and-white painting by hand in her front yard, she'll let you try for like 10 kuai. the bus ride itself is pretty scenic, winds through these tea terraces that are way greener than anything around yaoli

fwiw there's a kiln village called yaoli that's pretty cool, it's like an hour out and you can hike up to old dragon kilns in the hills. not as polished as the main spots but feels more real if that makes sense

Solid itinerary, you've got the essentials down. For Taoxichuan, the Creative Market is great, but don't skip the indoor galleries in the old factory buildings there. I spent a whole afternoon in one that had a solo show by a local ceramicist who was doing these incredible thin-walled bowls that looked like they were made of paper. The pieces were for sale, but even just looking was worth it.

One thing about the Porcelain Street Market: the best deals are actually in the side alleys off the main strip. The vendors there are often wholesalers who'll sell you a single bowl for the same price as a dozen if you're polite. I got a set of four tea cups for 30 CNY from a woman who barely spoke English, just pointed and smiled.

For Day 3, if you have a bit more time, skip the bus and rent a scooter from a shop near the bus station for about 80 CNY a day. The ride to Yaoli is through some nice countryside, and you can stop at a couple of smaller villages along the way that aren't on the tourist route. Just make sure you fill up at a gas station before leaving town, the ones out there are few and far between.

This is a solid itinerary, you've covered the main spots well. One thing I'd add is that the Sanbao Village clay sessions are worth the 50 CNY, but they fill up fast in the morning, so booking ahead by calling the museum office is smart. I tried to just show up once and they were full until 2 PM.

For Day 3, the bus to Yaoli drops you at the new town entrance, but the old part is a 10 minute walk past the bridge. There's a small noodle shop on the river path that does a decent bowl for 12 CNY, better than the tourist restaurants near the main square. Also, the bus back to Jingdezhen stops running around 4 PM, so keep an eye on the time or you'll be stuck paying 120 CNY for a taxi.

You've done a great job putting this together. One thing I'd add is that the Taoxichuan night market is amazing for food, but the real hidden gem there is the weekend ceramic flea market in the parking lot behind the main buildings. I found a tiny, imperfect celadon cup from someones personal collection for 20 CNY, and it's become my favorite thing to drink tea from at home.
