The guide is solid, but I would add that Heihe Museum of History is smaller than you might expect, so you can get through it in about an hour. If you have time on Day 1, walk a block north to the riverfront promenade after the museum, it is a nice spot to watch the ferries cross to Blagoveshchensk. For the Border Trade Market, go early in the morning when the vendors are restocking, you can find better deals on Russian chocolate and honey before the crowds hit around 11. Also, the Siberian Grill is good but their pelmeni dumplings are the real standout, not just the lamb skewers.
i'd say the guide has it right about the border trade market being good, but if you're into weird stuff, check out the basement level there. a lot of vendors sell vintage soviet watches and old military pins for real cheap, like 10-20 CNY each. my buddy got a legit old compass from the 80s for like 15 bucks, pretty cool if you're into that kind of thing. also the riverfront walk at night is underrated, way quieter than the park and u can see the lights across the border clearer
oh and one thing the guide doesnt mention, theres a small ferry that goes from the port across to Blagoveshchensk for like 100 CNY round trip if you have a visa. i did it on my second day and it was wild being in russia for a few hours, totally changes how u see the border. just make sure ur passport is stamped properly coming back, the chinese side can be strict about it

honestly the river cruise is worth it but go for the evening one if you can. the way the lights come on across both cities is pretty surreal, feels like you're floating between two worlds. also if you're into photography, the sun sets right behind blagoveshchensk's cathedral dome, makes for a killer shot from the water
one thing the guide kinda glosses over is the hezhe minority museum inside the main museum. it's a small room but they have actual fishing spears and birch bark boats used by the indigenous people who lived here way before the border existed. free and cool to see how they survived the winters
and if you have an extra day, take the bus out to aihui town. it's like 30 minutes south, has this old treaty monument where the russian-chinese border was redrawn in 1858. quiet little place with a dock overlooking the river, way less touristy than the main spots in heihe
yeah the wudalianchi tip is solid, the mineral springs at wenbo are actually drinkable and locals swear by them for digestion issues. i'd skip the paid entry if you're just there for the springs tho, you can access them from the public park area for free. also the bus to aihui is like 5 yuan and runs every hour from the main station. the treaty monument is just a stone plinth but the real gem is the old russian-style church nearby, it's been turned into a small museum with photos from the 1900s. way quieter than the main heihe spots, i spent an afternoon there just watching the river flow
ngl the river cruise is nice but if you're here in summer, skip the daytime one and just walk along the riverfront promenade instead. there's a stretch near the port where locals fish and you can buy fresh amur river fish straight off their lines for like 10 yuan, they'll even grill it for you on a little portable stove. way more real than the tourist boat experience
also the guide mentions the grand theatre but doesnt say the russian ballet shows are way cheaper here than in blagoveshchensk. like 80 yuan for a decent seat vs 2000 rubles across the river. just check the schedule at the box office a day ahead, they sometimes cancel shows if not enough people buy tickets
