the guide's right about the russian food but honestly the best spot for that is a small place called beliy dom on lenina street, not friendship road. it's a bit tucked away near the riverfront and their beef stroganoff comes with this thick sour cream sauce that's way better than the touristy spots. also if you're at the central market in the morning grab a bowl of guo tie from the old woman at the northeast corner stall, she's been there for like 20 years and charges 8 yuan for 10 pieces. the market gets packed by 9am so go early if u want to avoid the crowd

i'd say the guide has it right about the border trade market being good, but if you're into weird stuff, check out the basement level there. a lot of vendors sell vintage soviet watches and old military pins for real cheap, like 10-20 CNY each. my buddy got a legit old compass from the 80s for like 15 bucks, pretty cool if you're into that kind of thing. also the riverfront walk at night is underrated, way quieter than the park and u can see the lights across the border clearer
oh and one thing the guide doesnt mention, theres a small ferry that goes from the port across to Blagoveshchensk for like 100 CNY round trip if you have a visa. i did it on my second day and it was wild being in russia for a few hours, totally changes how u see the border. just make sure ur passport is stamped properly coming back, the chinese side can be strict about it
