honestly this is a solid itinerary, I've done something similar myself a few times. One thing I'd add is that the Anhui Museum on Huaide Street is actually the old location now, the new main branch is out by Swan Lake on Huaining Road and it's way bigger with better exhibits. The old one is still fine but if you're already at Swan Lake on day 1 you could swap them around.
For Chaohu Lake, if u take the 308 bus get off one stop early at the fishermen's wharf instead of the main temple pier. There's a little open air market there where old ladies sell dried fish and pickled veggies, way better than the tourist restaurants. Also the boat ride feels a bit rushed at 50 yuan, I'd skip it and just walk the lakeside path past the temple, the views are just as good.
One thing nobody mentions is that USTC campus has this hidden little coffee shop near the east gate, called Yixiang maybe? It's in a converted courtyard house and the coffee is decent, good place to kill an hour if the museum is too crowded. Also the student canteen on Huangshan Road is cash only so bring small bills.
These are all good suggestions. One thing I'd add for day 3 is that the High-Tech Zone Innovation Exhibition Center is worth a quick visit but it's pretty corporate and brochure-heavy. If you have extra time, walk 10 minutes north to the Tian'ehu Park instead. It's a small artificial lake with a nice walking path and almost no tourists, just locals walking their dogs or flying kites in the afternoon.
For the pedestrian street on Huaihe Road, the sesame cakes from Gongjing Lane that someone mentioned are legit. I'd also grab a bowl of xiaochi from the stall on the northwest corner of the intersection with Suzhou Road, it's run by an old couple and they do a solid beef and vermicelli soup for 10 yuan. yeah this is a well thought out plan, the original writer clearly spent time on it. for day 2 i'd actually suggest swapping the order, hit ziyun cave first in the morning when it's less crowded, then head to chaohu lake for the afternoon. the cave gets stuffy and loud with tour groups after 11am, we went at 9:30 and had whole chambers to ourselves, made the 60 yuan feel like a steal
one thing nobody's mentioned is that the hefei botanical garden has a small bamboo grove section in the back corner that most people walk right past. it's dead quiet back there, nice spot if the main paths are busy. also the greenhouse is okay but nothing special, i wouldn't prioritize it if you're short on time
for day 3, the uste museum is free but it's more aimed at school groups, the exhibits are mostly in chinese with minimal english labels. if that's fine then go for it, but if you're not reading chinese you might be better off just wandering the campus itself, the old buildings near the main gate have nice architecture from the 1950s

I stayed at one called Hefei Old Street Inn last year and liked that I could step out for jianbing from a street cart without dealing with the pedestrian street crowds.
For the nightlife section, the bars along Suzhou Road are fine but can get rowdy on weekends. If you want something more laid back, the craft beer spots around Wuhu Road near the university are better for actual conversation. They tend to close earlier though, around midnight.
This is a solid breakdown of Hefei's neighborhoods. I'd add that the area around Tian'ehu in the High-Tech Zone is worth considering for families too. It's quieter than Binhu but still has good parks and a nice lake for evening walks, plus the shopping mall there has a decent indoor playground for kids. Binhu can feel a bit spread out and empty in parts if you don't have a car.
For digital nomads, the co-working spaces near Innovation Avenue are fine, but I've found the cafes around the University of Science and Technology of China campus more pleasant for getting work done.
