Nhà hàng Tùng Lâm in Gejiu, worth the trip?
Stopped by on a trip last spring. The fried chicken with ginger was the standout, expect maybe 40 to 60 yuan a head. It's a short taxi from the center, not really a walk.
Second this, the ginger chicken is the reason to go.
Agreed on the ginger chicken, though I'd add the sour fish soup is worth the extra 20 yuan if you're not alone.
yeah the ginger chicken carries the place, though id skip the sour fish soup unless theres 3+ of u
did u try the sour fish soup too or just stick to the chicken? curious if it's worth the extra
worth it with 3+ people, too much for two
how far a taxi roughly, and did u have to book the ginger chicken ahead or just walk in?
like 15 min by taxi, no booking needed on a weekday
the ginger chicken alone justifies the taxi fare
prob a bit more than 60 now, prices crept up
Xijie Bar in Gejiu 2026: is this a scam?
no receipt cash-only upstairs room is the tell, that's a hustle not a members club, plenty of bars pull this on tourists near the old town.
yeah the old town spots near Jinhu Lu pull this exact move, cash only and a "member" room that's just a back table. 200 is steep too, they usually open at 100 and fold fast. walking was the right call.
Same play runs round Renmin Lu after dark too
the upstairs rooms are mostly just karaoke boxes anyway
tbh the karaoke box thing is usually the cover, the real ask is overpriced drinks once ur inside
tho some got converted to private booths lately
Cash only at any bar is the giveaway.
fair point about the old town. the tell i'd add is they always pick the guy standing alone, never a group, and the price moves once ur already halfway up the stairs. 200 upfront is just the opener
Agreed on the receipt thing. What I'd add is that legit bars around there won't even take a walk-up for an upstairs room, the guy at the door has to know you or you're booked through someone. Anyone flagging strangers off the street is working a commission, not a club.
They work the afternoon tea crowd too, before it gets dark.
