🏞️ Explore Sanjiang Plain
Fujin sits on the edge of the Sanjiang Plain, a vast wetland region that is best explored from May to October. The Fujin National Wetland Park, about 10 kilometers east of downtown, charges 60 yuan for entry and is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Bring binoculars for birdwatching, as the area is a stopover for rare species like the red-crowned crane. Local guides offer two-hour boat tours for around 150 yuan per person.

πŸ›οΈ Discover Local History
The Fujin Museum on Fudong Street displays artifacts from the Han and Jin dynasties, plus exhibits on the area's Russian and Japanese influences. Admission is free, and it opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Don't miss the reconstructed traditional Manchu courtyard in the back. For a deeper dive, visit the nearby Former Residence of Zhang Xueliang, a key figure in modern Chinese history.

🍜 Taste Northeastern Flavors
Fujin's food scene is rooted in hearty northeastern Chinese cuisine. Head to the night market on Jianshe Road, which runs from 5:00 PM to midnight, for grilled corn, lamb skewers, and cold noodles. A filling meal costs about 30 to 50 yuan. For a sit-down option, try the stewed fish at Lao Wang's Restaurant on Xinhua Street, a local favorite for over 20 years.

🚴 Cycle the Riverside
The Songhua River runs along the southern edge of Fujin, and a paved cycling path follows the bank for about 15 kilometers. Rent a bike from the kiosk near the Fujin Bridge for 20 yuan per hour. The route passes through poplar groves and small fishing villages, with several spots to stop for photos. Early morning is the best time to avoid crowds and catch the sunrise over the water.

🎣 Try Ice Fishing
From December to February, the frozen rivers around Fujin become a hub for ice fishing. Local operators on the Songhua River charge about 100 yuan per person for a half-day trip, including gear and a heated tent. You'll likely catch pike or perch, which you can cook on the spot. Dress in layers, as temperatures often drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius.

πŸ›οΈ Shop for Local Crafts
The Fujin Farmers Market on Zhongyang Street is the best place to buy wild honey, dried mushrooms, and handmade straw hats. It runs daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but arrive early for the freshest produce. Prices are negotiable, and most vendors accept mobile payments. For souvenirs, check the small shops near the bus station for birch bark boxes and embroidered pouches.

🚌 Getting Around Town
Fujin is compact, and most central attractions are within walking distance. Taxis start at 6 yuan and are plentiful, but they don't use meters after 10:00 PM, so agree on a fare beforehand. Public buses 1 and 3 connect the train station to the city center for 1 yuan. For day trips to the wetlands, hire a driver for about 300 yuan round-trip.

πŸ“… Plan Your Visit
The best time to visit Fujin is from June to September, when the weather is mild and the wetlands are lush. Winter offers ice fishing and snow festivals, but many smaller attractions close. Book hotels in advance during the July Dragon Boat Festival, when prices double. A comfortable mid-range hotel like the Fujin Hotel on Fuxing Road costs around 200 yuan per night.

Never made it to Fujin myself but I've been poking around the Jiamusi area the last couple summers, and the one thing I'd flag is the train situation. Fujin doesn't have its own station on the main Hada line, so most people end up coming in by bus from Jiamusi, roughly three hours, or getting off at Shuangyashan and taxiing over. If you're planning around the July holiday, book those bus tickets the same day they open or you'll be standing.

On the wetland park, the guide's 60 yuan figure is right but I've heard the boat operators sometimes quote foreigners a higher rate, so agree on 150 before you step on. The red-crowned cranes are genuinely there but you need to go early, they're most active in the first couple hours after opening.

the zhang xueliang residence is the sleeper pick here, most people blow past it on the way to the wetland. its small, maybe 30 min, but the staff will actually talk to you about the xi'an incident if you ask and the courtyard has this old pear tree thats supposedly from his time there. no english signage though so bring a translation app or a patient friend.

on hotels, the 200 yuan figure for fujin hotel is optimistic in summer, i got quoted 380 during dragon boat week last year and that was after calling around. there are a couple of guesthouses near zhongyang street for under 150 if you dont mind shared bathrooms, the farmers market vendors can usually point you to one.

solid writeup, saving this for when i head up that way. i havent been to fujin yet but i did the sanjiang plain loop a few summers back and the one thing id add is timing, the wetlands are way better in late june than august because the water drops and half the channels get too shallow for the boats. also bring mosquito stuff, the plain is no joke in july

if you're going that far, khabarovsk is only a few hours across the border at tongjiang and the old soviet-era architecture there is worth the visa hassle. different vibe entirely from the chinese side of the river

Then walk 5 minutes to the riverside promenade for a stroll along the Songhua River. Have lunch at Chunfeng Dumpling House (No. 15 Jiefang Street, 20 yuan for a plate of dumplings).

🏞️ Afternoon at Sanjiang
After lunch, take a taxi (15 minutes, about 15 yuan) to Sanjiang National Nature Reserve, the meeting point of the Heilong, Songhua, and Ussuri rivers. Entry is 50 yuan, open 8:00-18:00. Walk the 2 km boardwalk to see the distinct river colors and spot waterfowl. Return to the city by 17:30 to avoid limited evening transport.

🍜 Evening Food Street
For dinner, head to Dongfanghong Food Street (open 17:00-23:00) near the central square. Try the local specialty, stewed river fish with cornbread (30-40 yuan), and grilled squid skewers (5 yuan each). Wash it down with a bottle of local beer (8 yuan). The street is a 10-minute walk from most central hotels.

Take bus 5 from the city center to Fujin Wetland Park (30 minutes, 3 yuan). The park opens at 8:30 and costs 40 yuan for entry. Rent a bike for 20 yuan per hour to explore the 10 km of trails. Bring binoculars for birdwatching, especially in spring and autumn. Lunch options inside are limited, so pack snacks or eat at the small cafe near the entrance (average 25 yuan).

πŸ›οΈ Afternoon History Stop
After the wetland, take bus 5 back and get off at the Fujin Martyrs Memorial (open 9:00-16:30, free). It is a 15-minute ride from the park. Spend an hour learning about local history. Then walk 10 minutes to the nearby Russian-style old quarter on Stalin Street for photos. Return to your hotel by 17:00 to rest.

🎭 Evening Culture Show
Book a ticket for the Fujin Grand Theater (No. 88 Wenhua Road) for a folk music performance, usually starting at 19:30. Tickets range from 50 to 120 yuan. Arrive 20 minutes early to get a good seat. After the show, grab late-night barbecue at Lao Wang BBQ (open until 2:00) on Xinhua Street, about 10 minutes on foot.

πŸ›οΈ Day 3: Markets and Crafts
Start at the Fujin Farmers Market (open 6:00-12:00) on Nongye Road to see local produce and snacks. Try fresh fried dough sticks (2 yuan) and soy milk (3 yuan) for breakfast. Then walk 15 minutes to the Handicraft Market on Wenming Street (open 9:00-17:00) for souvenirs like birch bark boxes (20-50 yuan).

🚢 Afternoon Farewell Walk
After lunch at a local noodle shop (15 yuan for a bowl), take a final walk along the Songhua River promenade. Visit the small riverside pagoda (free) for views. If you have time, stop by the Fujin Library (open 9:00-17:00) for a quiet break. Head to the railway station by 16:00 for evening trains; bus 2 takes 10 minutes from the center.

Good writeup, the bus numbers and prices are more detail than most Fujin guides bother with. One thing I'd flag on the Day 2 wetland plan: bus 5 drops you at the main gate but the bike rental shack near the entrance only had a handful of bikes when I was there, and on a weekend they were gone by 9:30. If cycling the 10 km of trails matters to you, get there at opening rather than mid-morning.

Also worth knowing the wetland is genuinely remote, there's basically one cafe and it closes around 15:00, so the pack snacks advice is not optional. I ended up eating a bag of sunflower seeds for lunch and regretted it by the time I got back to town.

heads up on the theater, i tried booking fujin grand theater online last oct and the folk shows only run fri-sun, weekdays its mostly empty. box office opens at 9am and honestly the 50 yuan seats in the back rows are fine, the hall isnt huge. also Stalin Street is worth more than the quick photo stop the guide suggests, the old wooden houses there are falling apart in a photogenic way and there's a tiny bakery halfway down that does decent black bread.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

visited fujin a couple years back on a trip through jiamusi & honestly the sanjiang reserve was the highlight for me. one thing the guide doesnt mention: the boardwalk at sanjiang is way better at low tide, u can actually see where the three rivers meet with that sharp color line, but at high water it just looks like one brown river tbh. also check the tide schedule at the visitor center before u go, no point paying 50 yuan if the timing is off

if ur into the wetland park, bring mosquito spray. i got eaten alive there in july even with long sleeves. locals told me early morning is best for birds anyway
