yeah this is a solid list honestly. one thing i'd add for Jinan is the Black Tiger Spring (黑虎泉) - it's free and way less crowded than Baotu Spring, locals actually fill their water jugs there in the morning. the whole spring water thing is a big deal here, people swear by it for tea

for Tai'an, if you're doing the cable car thing, go on a weekday if you can. weekends the queue at Mid-Heaven Gate can be like an hour easy. also the sunrise is worth the early start but bring a jacket even in summer cause it gets windy up top

the Linqing tip is underrated, that canal museum is small but they have some cool old maps showing how the Grand Canal connected everything. the fried dough twists they mention are called sanzi (馓子) and you'll see them sold everywhere near the old city wall

one thing the guide missed - there's a direct bus from Dezhou to the Yellow River Delta in autumn for like 30 yuan, leaves from the long-distance bus station near Dezhou Station. saves you the hassle of driving yourself

Good suggestions all around. For Tai'an, if you're taking the cable car up, consider walking down instead. The path from the South Heaven Gate to the Mid-Heaven Gate is all stone steps and takes about an hour and a half, but you pass the inscriptions carved into the cliffs that go back hundreds of years. Some are from emperors and poets. You miss all of that on the way up if you take the cable car. Your knees will complain the next day but it's worth it.

On the Qufu trip, the Confucius Temple has a massive stone stele forest near the front gate. Most people walk right by it heading for the main hall, but those stelae have calligraphy from different dynasties and they're essentially a free outdoor museum. The oldest ones are from the Tang dynasty. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes to walk through them before you go inside.

honestly the guide's right about booking tickets on 12306 but fair warning that app can be a pain for foreigners if you don't have a chinese bank card. i usually just queue at Dezhou East station the day before, they have english signs at the ticket windows now and it's not as busy as you'd think. for Jinan the Shandong Museum is free but you need to reserve a spot on their WeChat mini program, show up without it and they'll turn you away at the gate even if it's empty inside

one thing nobody mentioned is Dezhou has its own little food street near the old city moat, runs along 解放大道. it's mostly local stuff like 驴肉火烧 (donkey meat sandwich) for like 8 yuan and these hand-pulled noodles that are way better than the chains. opens around 6pm and gets busy by 7:30, good place to grab dinner before your early train the next morning

solid guide, covers the essentials. one thing i'd add is the Dezhou Confucian Temple is actually free after 5pm on weekdays, most tourists don't know that and pay the 20 yuan entry during the day. the courtyard gets really quiet around sunset, nice spot to chill for a bit before heading to dinner

also if you're into hiking, the Changle Mountain trailhead is a 15 min bus ride from the east station on route 106. it's a bit rugged but the view from the top overlooks the whole city, totally worth the sweat. just bring water since there's no vendors up there

Nice guide, covers the important stuff. One thing I'd add is that the Dezhou Museum has a rotating exhibit on the lower level that changes every few months, usually featuring local archaeological finds from the surrounding counties. I went last October and they had pottery from the Warring States period that wasn't even mentioned in the main displays upstairs. It's worth asking the front desk if there's a special exhibition running when you visit.

Also, for getting around, the city's new bike lanes on Dongfeng Road are actually separated from traffic, which makes cycling way safer than in most Chinese cities. I rented a Hellobike and rode from the museum to the Jianhe River area in about 20 minutes, cost me 3 yuan total. Just make sure your app has enough balance before you start, the bike locks can be finicky about payment.

this guide is pretty thorough, props to whoever wrote it. one thing i'd add is that the Dezhou Paiji is great but the Lao Dezhou Paiji Restaurant gets packed around noon, so go at 11am or after 1pm to avoid the queue. also the braised chicken there is about 45 yuan now, not 40, prices went up a bit last year

if you're into cheap eats, the breakfast places on Tianshan Road near the food street do jianbing for like 6 yuan with egg and you can add youtiao for an extra 2 yuan. way better than the hotel breakfast buffets that charge 30 yuan for the same stuff
