Peking U Food?
If you're near the south gate of Peking U, walk about 10 minutes down Chengfu Road toward Wudaokou. There's a tiny place called Zhang Mama's that does incredible Sichuan-style dandan noodles for around 12 kuai, and it's always packed with students at lunch. For something more substantial, the Lanzhou lamian joint on the east side of the street, just past the subway station, has hand-pulled noodles that beat anything in the canteen. I'd skip the places right at the gate, they're overpriced and cater to tourists.
honestly the best food near peking u isn't even on the main streets, it's in the hutong alleyways between chengfu road and the south gate. there's this unmarked xian-style burger stall that sets up around 5pm near the little convenience store on zhongguancun beidajie, they do roujiamo with actual braised pork belly and it's like 8 kuai, way better than the dry ones you see everywhere. also if u walk 15 mins toward the summer palace side there's a whole cluster of student joints under the flyover, the hotpot place there has a 38 kuai all-you-can-eat deal that's obscenely good value
yeah the canteen gets old fast, i feel u. head to the little lane opposite the east gate, it's called haidian lu but the good stuff is tucked in the side alleys. there's a place that does jianbing with extra crispy cracker and a spicy bean sauce that's not the sweet northern style, costs like 7 kuai and they wrap it in paper so u can walk and eat. also the korean fried chicken spot two blocks north of the wudaokou intersection has a lunch special for 25 kuai that comes with rice cakes and pickled radish, students line up for it around noon

best photo spots in beijing?
olympic forest park is slept on fr. the linden trees along the main axis go gold in late october and the bird's nest reflection in the lake at sunrise is nuts, barely anyone there on weekdays. also check out 798 art district on a weekday morning, the old factory pipes and graffiti make great contrast shots. tbh bring a wider lens than u think you need, everything in beijing is bigger than it looks in photos
everyone goes for the big landmarks but honestly the best shots i got were from the overpasses on the 3rd ring road at dusk, just traffic light trails with CCTV tower lit up in the background. also guomao at blue hour from the silk street footbridge, the CBD towers all glassy & orange, tripod helps cuz u need a slow shutter. one thing nobody mentions, air quality totally changes your photos so check the AQI app the night before, a clear day after rain is worth waiting for
For sunrise the Temple of Heaven east gate area is underrated, locals doing tai chi around 5:30am with the morning fog, way better than fighting crowds at Tiananmen. For sunset honestly just walk along the canal near Shichahai, the reflections off the water with the Drum Tower behind are hard to beat. Bring a tripod if you can, the good light only lasts like 20 mins this time of year.
