Peking U Food?

fmd_good Peking University

Spent a week near Peking University, absolutely loved the campus architecture. Seriously stunning. But man, the food options around there felt...limited? I mostly stuck to the campus canteen, which… more

Yeah, the campus canteen is... fine. But Peking U's neighborhood has some real gems if you know where to look. Forget the usual tourist traps; wander a bit further down those smaller side streets. There's a little hole-in-the-wall noodle place, I can't remember the name, but it's near the west gate – seriously amazing hand-pulled noodles. Also, check out the smaller food stalls around the residential areas north of the campus. Those often have better, cheaper options than the more obvious places. Seriously though, just get lost for a bit; that's half the fun of exploring a place like that. You'll stumble on some amazing food.

Echoes of History?

That's fascinating! The Great Hall is a beast, isn't it? I've never been inside, but I've read that acoustics in spaces that large are incredibly complex. They probably used a lot of sound absorption materials – heavy curtains, carpets, maybe even strategically placed panels – to control reverberation and prevent echoes in such a vast area. Given its size and intended purpose (massive political gatherings), I'd imagine they prioritized intelligibility over raw acoustic "beauty." Think less concert hall, more clear announcements across a stadium. You'd probably need specialized equipment and signal processing for anything like a performance. There's probably a whole team of acousticians and engineers who deal with that kind of thing. Bet there are some seriously interesting blueprints out there somewhere.
