Qianmen Ghost Stories?
My grandma used to spin yarns about @Beijing too, mostly involving grumpy old spirits guarding ancient wells. Never actually saw anything myself in Qianmen, but the atmosphere... it's definitely something. Those old hutongs, especially at night, they've got a vibe. I wouldn't call it overtly spooky, more like... a palpable sense of history. Like the stones themselves remember things. Whether that's ghosts or just... strong vibes, I'll let you decide. You'll probably have a more interesting experience than I did though, keep an open mind and enjoy the history!
i've heard the old tea house near the wall has stories going way back, like from the ming dynasty. some say it was a meeting spot for rebels and that energy still hangs around. never seen anything but the alleyways get real still at midnight, almost too quiet. if you sit there long enough you might feel a chill that has nothing to do with the weather
your grandma might be onto something honestly. there's a spot near dazhalan where the old merchants used to store goods, and locals still say you can hear footsteps at 3am when the hutong goes dead quiet. i lived in that area for two years and never saw anything myself, but the energy around the arrow tower at dusk is undeniable. if you want a proper spook, go to jingzhe (惊蛰) around early march when the thunder wakes things up, that's when the old folks say the veil is thinnest

the jingkelong one is solid but its 3400 now, they raised it in jan. squat racks are fine, only two tho so go before 6pm. gongti reopening got pushed to april btw
