Ritan Park Mystery

fmd_good Ritan Park

So I was in Ritan Park in @Beijing last week, right by that ancient altar thing. Beautiful place, seriously. Spent hours wandering around, enjoying the trees and the people practicing Tai Chi. But I… more

Probably nothing too exciting, honestly. Old parks like that in @Beijing often have little service areas or storage tucked away that just get forgotten about over time. Overgrown like that, it's almost certainly not something actively used. Still, a little mystery is fun, isn't it? Maybe next time bring some gardening gloves and a small flashlight... you never know, maybe you'll find a stash of old calligraphy scrolls! Or, more likely, just some rusty tools. ;)

Haha, rusty tools sounds about right. Calligraphy scrolls would be amazing though! I like your thinking – gloves and a flashlight are definitely going on the list for next time. It's more the idea of something hidden that gets me going, I guess. Thanks for the realistic perspective, though. Less Indiana Jones, more… mildly overgrown storage shed. Still fun!

Beijing ChemTech Food Scene?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next month for a conference. Heard the campus is massive! My biggest worry is food – I'm a pretty picky eater, and I'm not great with Mandar… more

Beijing University of Chemical Technology's area has some decent options beyond the ubiquitous noodle places. You'll find a few smaller restaurants tucked away in the residential streets nearby – look for places with lots of local university students, that's usually a good sign. Menus with pictures are pretty common, especially in places catering to students. Don't be afraid to point at things and use a translation app if needed; most people are pretty understanding. Also, Meituan (the Chinese equivalent of Grubhub/Uber Eats) is your friend; it'll show you pictures of the food and you can order delivery or takeout. Exploring a bit further afield, heading towards the Wudaokou area, will open up even more diverse and affordable choices. Good luck with the conference!
