Yeah, the Dayangfang Bridge's transformation is a bit of a head-scratcher. I've seen those old photos too – it definitely looked a lot fancier back in the day. My guess? Probably a combination of factors. Beijing's undergone massive urban development, and older infrastructure often gets simplified or even demolished during these projects. Maybe the original bridge was damaged and a rebuild prioritized functionality over historical aesthetics. Or, they could've just gone for a "modernization" that, in retrospect, wasn't the best aesthetic choice. Finding detailed historical records on smaller bridges like this can be tough though; you might have to dig through some pretty obscure archives if you want the full story. It's a shame, really. Sometimes progress isn't pretty.
