the bunkers are the real story there, not the wind. they're deep, like proper deep, and the sand is that heavy river sand that kills your clubhead speed. i've seen decent players take two or three to get out of the ones guarding 14 and 15. get a 60 degree wedge with high bounce if u dont already have one, and practice open-face shots before you go.
also the greens run faster than most Beijing courses, especially after they cut them for weekend play. what looks like a straight 10 footer will break on you.
wind at tianzhu is real but its the front nine that gets you tbh. holes 3 through 6 sit wide open with nothing to block it, and it comes off the hills from the northwest most afternoons. back nine is more sheltered by the tree lines so if ur worried about the wrong half ur prepping for the easy part. bring a low punch shot u trust, thats the whole game out there
Afternoon tee times in spring are a different animal, the smog layer traps heat and kills the breeze until around 4, then it switches and comes back hard when you're finishing. Morning rounds before 9 are your best bet for calm conditions. Also watch the par 3s, they play a club or two longer than the card says because of the elevation changes nobody mentions.

olympic forest park is slept on fr. the linden trees along the main axis go gold in late october and the bird's nest reflection in the lake at sunrise is nuts, barely anyone there on weekdays. also check out 798 art district on a weekday morning, the old factory pipes and graffiti make great contrast shots. tbh bring a wider lens than u think you need, everything in beijing is bigger than it looks in photos
everyone goes for the big landmarks but honestly the best shots i got were from the overpasses on the 3rd ring road at dusk, just traffic light trails with CCTV tower lit up in the background. also guomao at blue hour from the silk street footbridge, the CBD towers all glassy & orange, tripod helps cuz u need a slow shutter. one thing nobody mentions, air quality totally changes your photos so check the AQI app the night before, a clear day after rain is worth waiting for
For sunrise the Temple of Heaven east gate area is underrated, locals doing tai chi around 5:30am with the morning fog, way better than fighting crowds at Tiananmen. For sunset honestly just walk along the canal near Shichahai, the reflections off the water with the Drum Tower behind are hard to beat. Bring a tripod if you can, the good light only lasts like 20 mins this time of year.
