🏯 Explore Baisha Old Town
Start your visit at the Baisha Old Town, a well-preserved Naxi village with cobblestone streets and traditional wooden houses. The main square, Sifang Street, is a great orientation point and hosts occasional cultural performances. Entry to the old town is free, but some individual attractions charge small fees. Visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and see locals going about their daily routines.

πŸ–ΌοΈ See the Baisha Murals
The Baisha Murals, located in the Dabaoji Palace and nearby temples, are exquisite examples of Naxi Buddhist art dating back to the Ming Dynasty. The murals depict religious themes and daily life, and are a must-see for history and art enthusiasts. The site is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and the entrance fee is around 30 CNY. Guided tours are available for deeper insights into the symbolism.

🌿 Wander Through Baisha's Countryside
Rent a bicycle or take a leisurely walk through the surrounding countryside, where you'll find fields of barley and corn, and traditional Naxi farmhouses. The area is also known for its apple orchards, and in autumn you can pick fresh apples at local farms. A popular route is the 30-minute walk from Baisha to the nearby village of Yuhu, offering stunning views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

🍜 Savor Local Naxi Cuisine
Don't miss trying Naxi baba, a flatbread that comes in sweet and savory varieties, often sold at street stalls for around 10 CNY. For a sit-down meal, head to one of the family-run restaurants near Sifang Street, where you can sample dishes like chicken hotpot with local herbs and fried goat cheese. Prices are reasonable, with a hearty meal costing about 50-80 CNY per person.

🎨 Learn About Dongba Culture
The Dongba culture is the traditional religious and cultural system of the Naxi people, and Baisha is a great place to learn about it. Visit the Dongba Culture Museum (also known as the Baisha Naxi Culture Museum) to see Dongba scriptures and artifacts. The museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and charges a small entrance fee of 20 CNY. You can also find workshops where you can try your hand at Dongba pictographic writing.

πŸ›οΈ Shop for Local Crafts
Baisha is known for its traditional crafts, particularly embroidery and silver jewelry. Along the main streets, you'll find shops selling handmade items, from embroidered bags to silver bracelets. Support local artisans by purchasing directly from their workshops, such as the Baisha Embroidery Workshop near the old town entrance. Prices are negotiable, but expect to pay 50-200 CNY for quality pieces.

🚌 Getting Around Baisha
Baisha is easily accessible from Lijiang by bus (about 30 minutes, 5 CNY) or taxi (around 50 CNY). Once in Baisha, the old town is compact and walkable, but to explore the surrounding villages, consider renting a bicycle for about 30 CNY per day. Local buses also connect Baisha to nearby attractions like Yuhu Village and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

πŸŒ„ Day Trip to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Baisha serves as a convenient base for visiting Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, one of Yunnan's most iconic peaks. The mountain is about a 30-minute drive away, and you can arrange a taxi or join a tour from Baisha. The entrance fee is 100 CNY, and cable car tickets range from 120 to 200 CNY depending on the route. Go early to avoid crowds and catch the sunrise over the peaks.

Solid writeup. Fwiw the murals ticket also covers Xingjiao and Dading temples a short walk away, most people skip them and they're quieter. Grab a Naxi baba fresh off the grill rather than pre-made ones sitting out.

Good rundown. One thing I'd add: the murals at Dabaoji Palace are best seen in the morning light, the hall faces east and by afternoon the detail gets hard to make out. Also the 6θ·― bus from Lijiang drops you on the main road, not the old town, so it's a 10 minute walk in. Bring cash for the smaller workshops, several don't take mobile pay.

Skip Sifang, stay on the lanes behind it.

Mu Family Mansion closed for renovation last month.

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

Solid plan, but skip bus 6 and grab the 7:40am minibus from the main road instead, it drops you closer to the cable car base.

arrow_drop_up 19 arrow_drop_down

Worth checking the weather before committing to the mountain day. Clouds rolled in fast when I went and the cable car shut with no refund, so a flexible order helps. The old town lanes are lovely in drizzle anyway.
