Getting a CPF in Sao Paulo 2026 as a foreigner

Can I use a hotel or a friend's address when I don't have a place yet? I'll be near Praça da Sé my first week if there's an office around there worth going to.

friend's address is fine, hotel usually gets refused

Agreed on hotels, though some do hand over a written confirmation if you ask at reception. The bigger snag is the responsible party: your friend may need to sign a declaração at the Receita Federal office with you. The Sé unit (Praça da Sé, 381) handles this but queues get long, so arrive before 8am.

the declaração thing caught me out too, worth noting the friend needs a CPF of their own or they cant sign for u. also bring a printed copy of ur passport page, they turned away a guy next to me for showing his phone

also worth knowing the Sé unit only does CPF by appointment now, booked through the Receita's portal, so turning up early won't help unless u have a slot

One thing worth knowing: the address you give becomes your tax domicile, so updating it later at any Receita Federal unit is a quick form, not a new application.

Worth adding that the friend's address needs a CEP, and whoever owns it should ideally be reachable if the Receita ever sends correspondence there.

Bar Parnapiacaba: worth the trip from São Paulo?

Is it worth the trip out there, or should I stick to bars closer to the center? Any tips on how to get there and what to order would help.

paranapiacaba is the village, not a bar

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

If you do go, avoid weekends because the train gets packed and the return times are limited. The Paranapiacaba station stop is a short walk from the old town, but the fog rolls in fast so bring a jacket even in March. Order the pastel and a caldo de cana at the little stalls near the funicular, that's the real local move.

idk if u mean paranapiacaba the old railway village, that's a day trip not a bar night, go for the fog & the cog train from prestes maia
