Best ways to meet people in Sao Paulo 2026

I've heard places around Vila Madalena and Pinheiros are good for that kind of thing, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions for someone arriving cold?

Praça Benedito Calixto, Saturday feira crowd.

good call on the feira, the food stalls are half the point. i'd add the bars along Rua Aspicuelta later on, same regulars spill over from the market. go early tho, it wraps by mid afternoon.

Pacaembu, Sunday morning runs.

Ibirapuera, 7am at gate 10

yeah the running crowd usually grabs coffee after at the padaria on Av. Pacaembu, that's where people actually chat and swap numbers.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

The padaria near the stadium gets packed by 9, so show up for the 7:30 run if u actually want to talk.

Do they still meet by that little kiosk near the track? I think the group moved spots recently, not sure.

Runs there are solid but the crowd thins after Carnival, so check the group's Instagram before u show up in March.

honestly the language exchange at Lisbon Bar in Pinheiros on Tuesday nights is a good bet, it draws a regular crowd so you see the same faces weekly. For sport, look up the rugby and ultimate frisbee groups that train around Vila Madalena, they're very welcoming to newcomers. Classes at Sesc Pompeia fill up fast but the capoeira and dance ones build real friendships.

agree on the language exchange. also check Couchsurfing meetups in Consolação on Thursdays.

I got as far as booking an appointment but I'm stuck on which documents the Receita Federal actually wants from a visitor. Anyone been through this recently?
arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

the receita federal at república takes a passport copy & your brazilian address, but bring a bill in your name or they'll bounce u

arrow_drop_up 18 arrow_drop_down

passport copy needs to be notarized at a cartório first

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah the bill thing trips ppl up every time

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Comprovante de residência, and a rental contract sometimes works too.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

honestly the república office can be hit or miss with visitor addresses, so maybe call ahead first

Utility bill in your name, not just any mail.
