Bar e Lanchonete Praça da Sé, worth a stop in 2026?

Is Bar e Lanchonete Praça da Sé a decent spot for a cheap beer and a bite, or should I walk somewhere else nearby? Also is it safe around there at night for a solo traveler?

The Sé lunch counters are fine by day but I'd sleep in Pinheiros instead and day-trip the center.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Sounds reasonable, though staying near Sé does save you the commute if you're mostly doing the historic center.

Day-tripping means hitting Sé by 9am before the tour buses, and the cathedral's free crypt is worth the early start.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Sé to Vila Madalena is like 20 min on linha 2, and staying there means you get Fradique Coutinho bars without the metro late at night.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Praça da Sé gets pretty deserted after the cathedral closes and the area has a rough reputation at night, so I'd take the metro a couple stops to Vila Madalena or stay closer to República for a beer. During the day it's fine for a quick chopp and pastel.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Pinheiros works too, but go before dark.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

República has its own sketchy stretch around the República metro after dark, so keep walking toward Avenida Ipiranga for a bar with actual foot traffic.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Bar Brahma on São João at Ipiranga is the one with real foot traffic, though it's pricey now.

arrow_drop_up 12 arrow_drop_down

yeah that stretch by the metro is dodgy. i'd cut over toward Largo do Arouche instead, quieter but still has people around. or just grab a drink near Santa Cecília metro, less hassle than walking Ipiranga at night

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

honestly just grab a chopp and pastel at the counter and keep moving. its fine for a quick stop but i wouldnt linger there after dark. check the metro exit u use too.

Brunch near Catedral da Sé in Sao Paulo 2026

Is that area fine to walk around that time, or should I stick to certain streets? Also is the brunch worth it or are there better spots nearby?
arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Sunday 10am near Sé is quiet but keep to the Rua Direita and Praça do Patriarca side and skip empty cross streets; brunch itself is mediocre so I'd walk to Rua São Bento instead.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Yeah that side is calmer, but I'd add the Pátio do Colégio stretch, it's short and feels fine in daylight. Fwiw I'd grab coffee around Praça da Sé and eat later, the sit-down brunch places there are pretty forgettable.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

The Sé metro exits spit you onto the wrong side, use the Anhangabaú one.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Fair warning most sit-down spots between Sé and São Bento don't open till 11 on Sundays so plan the walk first
