The Praça da Sé area empties out fast after the offices close, and by 9pm it's mostly people passing through rather than sitting around. I'd take the metro since Sé station is right there and well lit, but keep your phone in your pocket on the exits. For a relaxed beer, I prefer the bars up toward Rua Direita or the Baixada do Glicério side over anything directly on the praça.

Agree, though I'd add the lanes off Rua 25 de Março nearby for a quieter pint.

Those side lanes get quiet enough that I'd stick to the ones with a lit boteco front, otherwise it's just shuttered wholesalers after 7.

Bar dos Arcos by the Theatro Municipal, closes early though.

Kitchen shuts around 10 but the taps run later.

Worth knowing the lanchonete counter inside Sé station itself stays open late and is handy if you just want one quick beer before heading back.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

sé metro is fine at that hour but use the exit toward the praça not the rua carlos de souza nazaré side, quieter & darker

Rua São Bento side, better lit

How reliable is the internet for video calls, and are there coworking spots or cafes where people actually settle in for a full workday? Also curious whether anyone overlaps with US or European hours, and how long remote workers tend to stay.

cafes along rua augusta are hit or miss for long stays, but coworkings like wework on paulista and a few smaller spots in vila madalena are solid. for US hours most ppl shift late afternoon to evening, europe is easier in the morning. stays tend to run 1 to 3 months.

wework on paulista is fine but book the quiet floor early, it fills up by 10 & the open area gets loud for calls
