I'm stuck on the Receita Federal step, since the online form keeps asking for a Brazilian address and I don't have one. Do I need a local address or can a hotel or a friend in Consolacao vouch for me?

honestly the CPF thing might not even be worth the hassle for a bar trip. for booking bars and restaurants you basically just need a name, and most places take foreign cards fine. if you're set on it though, the address field is more of a formality than a real blocker, plenty of people use a hostel they've booked. just check your airline doesn't need the CPF for the ticket itself, that's where it actually bites.

Fair point on the airline, though Gol and Latam usually just want passport data for the ticket, not a CPF.

A hotel or a friend in Consolacao can provide the address, so you don't need to own property there.

yeah that works but the friend route is safer, a hotel address can raise eyebrows if they ask for proof. also make sure the address is actually in your name or tied to someone who'll confirm it if Receita checks

Worth adding that the address alone won't cut it at the Receita counter. Bring a printout of the comprovante de residencia (utility bill or lease in the host's name) plus your passport. Without paper proof they can bounce you back to the online queue.

Agreed, though the friend route means their CPF gets attached as your resposavel, so make sure they're actually okay with that.

I've heard CPF is the real blocker, so sort that at the Receita Federal first and the account gets much easier.
