What's the actual price I should expect to pay there, not just whether it's fair?

Cash only, and go before 1pm.

tbh I'd show up even earlier, the queue gets silly by noon on weekdays

Novo Sabor isn't really a tourist spot, so you'll pay menu prices like everyone else, expect around R$40-60 for a prato feito at lunch.

Check if they add the 10% servico on top, that's the bit that catches visitors out. Card machines sometimes offer to convert to your home currency, always pick reais, the conversion rate is terrible.

padaria Santa Efigênia, go before 8am

Vintage Coffee is solid but the real draw nearby is Café Floresta on Rua do Arouche, better beans and far less crowded on weekday afternoons.

weekday afternoons at Arouche are the move but grab a pão de queijo from the padoca on Rua Aurora before they sell out around 11
